Job description

Kapili Government Services, LLC is looking for a qualified Technical Writer/Editor (PT) to support our contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA.

The successful Copy Editor will be responsible for editing and proofreading manuscripts submitted for publication in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention journal: Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Duties:

  • Edit manuscripts for grammar, spelling, syntax, and scientific/technical/medical terminology according to the journal’s style and format requirements.
  • Query authors or subject matter experts, or both, as required to correct writing, data, terminology, conclusions, or statistical information.
  • Revise writing to conform to the journal’s current style and usage conventions and to improve comprehensibility.
  • Format and cite references from various sources.
  • Run eXtyles software for manuscript preparation.
  • Maintain files in the EID share drive following EID’s precise naming and versioning conventions.
  • Rewrite and reorganize manuscripts as needed to improve organization of ideas and comprehensibility.
  • Verify consistency of data in text, tables, graphs, and technical appendices.
  • Format data tables and work with the journal’s production staff on formatting, proofing, and verifying the accuracy of illustrations, figures, photos, charts, and graphs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with authors concerning alterations, corrections, affiliations, deadlines, or other questions
  • Proofread EID content when required.
  • Attend regular meetings for copy editors and for the journal’s staff.
  • Proof, format, and develop EID podcasts.
  • Work on other communications activities, e.g. EID’s social media postings, tracking journal metrics, annual journal report, by researching subject matter; writing content for these communications products; and reviewing and proofing content.
  • Write monthly press summaries for selected articles. *Prepare forms and supplies information needed for submitting CME articles to Medscape and for publication in EID.

Degree/Education/Certification Requirements

Bachelor's Degree minimum.

Desired Skills and Experience

Copy editing experience in the field of medicine or infectious disease.
