The AWS Documentation team is looking for a senior technical writer to document the Migration Acceleration Program (MAP), a comprehensive and proven cloud migration program. MAP consists of an agile-based migration methodology, a global network of vetted partners, automation tools, a training path to up-skill staff, professional services, and financial investment to help manage migration costs.

As a Technical Writer, you're comfortable creating and managing highly technical content and expressing complex concepts in simple terms. You have strong interpersonal skills and can work effectively with developers, engineers, editors, writing peers, and subject matter experts.

Trusted to work independently and flexibly, you’ll have the choice of working remotely or being based in an Amazon corporate office.

Given the scope of AWS services, you enjoy the challenge of learning new material quickly and delivering that knowledge through high-quality, accessible content. When faced with deadlines and a high-cadence release schedule, you’ll draw on your experience and good judgement to prioritize work that most benefits your customers.

Ideally, you have a technical background that enables easy interaction with software developers and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality technical documentation. Any experience you have with web services, Linux, XML, and Git is also a bonus. While we don’t expect you to be an expert in these areas, we hope you’re excited to learn about them.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality technical content (documentation, code examples) for a diverse audience consisting of developers, DevOps professionals, IT professionals, technical program managers, and scientists.
  • Develop, negotiate, and drive a user-focused content strategy in alignment with the engineering product strategy.
  • Provide technical feedback on new features and experiences.
  • Work with customer data, gather feedback, and drive your insights into content and product planning.
  • Work with other writers and editors to improve how we write and evolve how we approach writing as a team.

About the team

The AWS Documentation team writes and provides support for a diverse audience consisting of developers, DevOps professionals, IT professionals, technical program managers, and scientists. On behalf of our customers, we do much more than just write the docs. We innovate, we research, we learn, and we experiment. We collaborate with product managers to understand our customers’ needs. We partner with software developers to learn the inner workings of AWS services so that we can influence the design and the customer experience. We know that what we do makes a difference in the successful adoption and implementation of AWS services.

Here at AWS, we embrace and learn from our similarities as well as our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion, and we welcome teammates from an array of backgrounds and life experiences. We offer the opportunity to belong, connect, and contribute as members of a growing number of active affinity groups and employee resource groups. We host annual and ongoing learning experiences that cover a variety of inclusion and diversity issues, such as our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences.

AWS is constantly moving and that can be one of the best parts about this job! You will always be learning and growing, but our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work.
