As a Technical Writer on the AWS Systems Manager team, you will work within a stellar technical content team to ensure our content is relevant, accurate, easy to find, and fresh. AWS Systems Manager makes it easier for customers to operate and manage their cloud and on-premises infrastructure securely and at scale.

The AWS Documentation team writes and provides support for a diverse technical audience, such as developers, DevOps professionals, IT professionals, and technical program managers. On behalf of our customers, we innovate, we research, we learn, and we experiment. We collaborate with product managers to understand our customers’ needs. We partner with software developers to learn about the inner workings of AWS services so that we can influence product design and the customer experience with the product. We know that what we do makes a difference to our customers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Write and edit conceptual information, step-by-step procedures, API descriptions, and example commands.
  • Use AWS to test new features as you work with developers and designers to improve the related user experience, UI text, error messages, and API design.
  • Interact directly with customers and use their feedback to improve the documentation.
  • Update and publish your documentation on demand. Work with peer writers and editors to improve your writing and grow professionally as a technical communicator.
  • Write and edit content using XML authoring tools
  • Apply and contribute to editorial style guides as needed

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years in a technical writing role.
  • Proven experience planning and delivering customer-focused documentation.
  • Experience working directly with engineering teams on a project for a technical audience, such as developers, DevOps, IT professionals, engineers, or scientists.
  • Experience using tools to create, manage, and publish documentation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Degree or certifications in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using an XML-based authoring system.
  • Experience with Linux or Windows system administration a plus.
  • High-level understanding of cloud computing, IT infrastructure, and different programming languages.
  • Experience using web analytics to measure content performance and identify actionable insights.
  • Experience measuring performance and optimizing content to increase organic traffic.
