Job description

Back Market is the #1 marketplace for refurbished electronic devices in Europe and in the US, leading the way in a shift towards a circular economy, freeing the planet from electronic waste. We are proud to sabotage ‘new’ by connecting highly certified professionals to consumers who are looking for a more affordable, reliable and an ecological alternative to purchasing brand new products.

Back Market is undergoing meteoric growth and has raised over 434M€ already! We have the objective of reaching 650 Back Makers (or Saboteurs) by the end of 2021!

We are thrilled to have an inclusive, fulfilling and caring work environment in all our offices (Paris, Bordeaux, New-York, Prague, Berlin and Tokyo). This is an opportunity for you to join a talented, humble and passionate team at the heart of innovation.

Be a part of the movement. Join the refurb revolution.

About us & the job:

Employees for this role can be based in our New York, Berlin, Bordeaux, or Paris office. We’re also open to fully remote employees based in or around Berlin, Bordeaux, London, New York, or Paris.

The Product Design & Research team at Back Market is passionate about informing and building interfaces with the user as our focus. We zoom out to see the bigger picture, but also understand the devil is in the details.

We are responsible for the user experience on Back Market, whether that be our customers or sellers, and through designing, prototyping, testing, and iterating, we evolve it in collaboration with different (and extraordinary) people.

We do this because we want to make the world a better place. After all, our goal is to offer more than just an alternative avenue to buy tech products, we want to do e-commerce differently.

Now, here’s what are we looking for:

We’re seeking a mid-level Content Designer to improve our seller-facing marketplace platform, write UX copy, and support product and design teams with content strategy and design-driven concepting for our seller portal, products, and features.

We’re a sustainable marketplace where we choose only the world’s finest tech refurbishers to sell on our platform. The B2B side of our business is at the heart of what we do and this role is packed with opportunities to shine. Your quest is to make our seller offerings clear and enticing while imparting the feel of a friendly helper. (Think Clippy, but with more chill.)

Embedded in the seller journey tribe, you’ll own, shape, and iterate on content design for our seller interface. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and research to finetune our seller journey from end to end, making data-driven decisions, and keeping our precious business partners in focus.

Your responsibilities:

  • Build compelling and delightfully written communication that makes our international seller platform accessible, understandable, encouraging, and enjoyable.
  • Collaborate with our existing content designers and B2B comms specialist to help shape our B2B voice across our Back Office and the many exciting features we’ve created for sellers therein.
  • Keep the needs of an international audience in mind, working with stakeholders and our Localization Manager to ensure our approach is adaptable in 16+ languages.
  • Participate in research to understand our sellers’ challenges first-hand, and keep these learnings forever front-of-mind as you improve the seller journey experience.
  • Dig into quantitative and qualitative data to discover opportunities to improve product copy, messaging, and signposting so our seller platform and offerings feel seamless and delightful.
  • Commune with our world-class team of content designers to fine-tune the B2B side of our glossary and ToV guide, and partake in general word nerdery on the reg.

You’re perfect if:

  • You have solid experience (say around 3 years) writing consumer-facing digital content (products, apps, platforms) in English.
  • Native-English speakers are highly preferred. We’d also love someone with additional fluency in another market where we’re present, but that’s not mandatory.
  • We want to see a passion for human-centered storytelling. You can easily absorb our distinctive tone of voice and wield it on a molecular level. You keep the Back Market glossary and in-house style guide open at all times, but you never stop thinking about how we can speak to our sellers even better.
  • You have a strong understanding of design methods, UX best practices, and UX writing principles. You have stories about how best to collaborate with product teams.
  • You can manage multiple initiatives at once, have a deft hand in prioritization, and like working in fast-paced environments.
  • You love to collaborate with people from all types of backgrounds and disciplines, from engineers and UX designers to marketers and analysts.
  • You believe in our mission, you have ideas about opportunities to help our seller experience grow and scale, and can put your content design superpowers to good use in our fight against new!
  • You are obsessive about user experience, you pay attention to detail regarding hierarchy, consistency, cognition, and natural language.

Nice to have:

  • You’ve got chops in a previous life as a business-facing writer for SaaS companies, creative agencies, or publishers; you know how to convey partner-facing propositions and, at times, straightforward B2B content and communication.
  • Experience with product design tools is a huge plus, (Figma, Miro, EnjoyHQ, etc.)

WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN US?

  • A meaningful job: through hard work, you will help avoid thousands of tons of electronic waste and fight against planned obsolescence. It counts!
  • An attractive salary, equity, multiple benefits (meal tickets, health insurance, etc...), parental benefits, relocation package, internal events, etc…
  • Be in an environment where you can make a difference: you will have the freedom to innovate and adopt new ideas!
  • Grow your career with a flexible career path, Back Market can help you evolve!
  • A booming scale-up: our environment is rapidly growing in Europe, the USA and in Asia!
  • We embrace work-life balance which includes flexible working hours and the opportunity to work from home.
  • A lot of fun: you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, open-minded and friendly environment.

Back Market is an Equal Opportunity Employer for any minority, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation.
