Bard Graduate Center (BGC), located on West 86th Street at Central Park West in New York City, seeks a skilled, proactive, dependable Content Manager to maintain and grow its institutional web presence. The Content Manager reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications; works closely with colleagues in Design, Information Technology, Academic Administration, Library and Research Collections, Exhibitions, Publications, Public Engagement, and Development; and manages relationships with contractors including web developers. The right candidate will enjoy being part of BGC’s flourishing community of students, faculty, curators, research fellows, and staff members. Bard Graduate Center is an interdisciplinary graduate research institute studying the cultural history of the material world. Our students gravitate to careers in museums, academia, the art world, and publishing.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine web goals and content strategy with BGC department heads; launch new content (images, videos, text) to support goals and enhance marketing / communications initiatives across all platforms
  • Work with external web developers and other freelancers as needed to launch new website features, fix bugs, create and update email templates, edit and upload videos
  • Maintain a daily / weekly / monthly / quarterly schedule of new content
  • Liaise with 12+ department heads and 12+ site editors to identify content, share analytics, offer guidance on best practices
  • Train site editors to use CMS templates; approve and publish their work
  • Ensure BGC’s web presence and emails reflect institutional branding standards and style guidelines
  • Follow user-centered design principles to support design decisions with best practices
  • Conduct usability testing to improve website functionality as needed
  • Coordinate with Information Technology to maintain site security and stability

Requirements:

  • One to three years of experience in content management, preferably in higher ed or an arts environment
  • Current in coding systems (HTML / CSS), content management systems, Google Analytics and Tag Manager, Adobe CS; knowledge of infrastructure systems (Github, CloudFlare, AWS) preferred
  • Sensitivity to design and storytelling in digital media
  • Capable of managing relationships with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, and administrators) in a complex institution with diplomacy and tact
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent project / time management skills
  • Show sound judgment and flexibility; able to work with maximal independence to meet competing deadlines and requests in a collaborative team environment
  • Some knowledge of design / museum / gallery world preferred
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading skills preferred
