Technical UX Writer

Job description

In this role, you will combine writing skills with a passion for user experience to help the team improve user experience and visual designs. Create simplified user content including user and administration guides, software API documentation, in-person training, video-based tutorials, architecture diagrams, product UI text, and other technical content as needed. Leverage expertise to collaborate with a diverse group of people including software engineers, test engineers, product managers, business analysts and other UX designers. Translate technical verbiage in documents to the verbiage that can be understood by non-technical professionals. Assist with designing intuitive innovative solutions as part of a large-scale digital transformation. Work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, and take ownership of this aspect of the team. This position is open to remote delivery anywhere within the U.S., including the District of Columbia.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a technical writer
  • 2+ years of experience with developing web-based end-user materials for complex systems and software including user guides, API documentation, tutorials, and training materials
  • 1+ years of experience with wireframing and designing user interfaces and clickable prototypes
  • Experience with preparing and maintaining cybersecurity documentation such as security plans, contingency plans, disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans
  • Knowledge of front-end web development languages
  • Knowledge of wireframing prototyping tools
  • Ability to quickly ascertain and understand complex applications, diagrams, user requirements, and designs with minimal assistance
  • Ability to apply 508 compliance standards and USWDS/USPTO design standards
  • Public Trust
  • HS diploma or GED and 3+ years of experience in an Agile development environment or Bachelor’s degree and 1+ years of experience in an Agile development environment

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with front-end web development languages including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with wireframing prototyping tools, including Adobe XD, Sketch, and InVision
  • Experience with diagramming tools including Visio and Lucidchart
  • Knowledge of the full spectrum of the digital creative process, including user research, information architecture, wireframing, rapid prototyping, and interface design
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, and Acrobat
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing client priorities and respond to ad hoc requests
  • Ability to manage input from a variety of team members while standardizing the language and format while maintaining positive version control

Vetting:

Applicants selected will be subject to a government investigation and may need to meet the eligibility requirements of the U.S. government client; Public Trust determination is required.

Salary for this position is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The proposed salary range for this position is outlined below.

  • Colorado: $38,900 - $72,900 (annualized USD)
  • New York (including New York City): $41,300 - $89,100 (annualized USD)
