What You’ll Be Doing

This role supports the Content team at Investor’s Edge (IE), CIBC’s direct investing offering. The Content team is responsible for all client-facing and internal content at IE. The team also writes content for other IE projects. As the Senior Content Designer, you’ll be the editorial lead on an agile or waterfall project team that works on updates to the IE client website. You’ll work as part of a project team comprised of visual designers, user experience designers, QA testers, developers, project managers, the scrum master and others as required, and you’ll oversee all content deliverables

How You’ll Succeed

Content writing and editorial

  • You understand how content affects the client experience. You also understand the need to meet business objectives, and you’re adept at bringing the two sides together. You’ll work closely with visual and UX designers to determine copy placement as pages are designed/created. You have strong UX writing skills and a keen eye for consistency. You’ll work with French translation vendors and content designers from other projects in IE to strategically plan content and ensure consistency in format, style, and terminology. You’ll write and edit copy decks, which include technical and client-facing content, as assigned. You’ll participate in QA testing activities, including copy reviews and addressing any discrepancies. You’ll also help keep the editorial team up-to-date on all editorial aspects of your projects.

Familiar with agile and waterfall projects

  • You’ll attend regular project team meetings and reviews with visual designers, user experience designers, product managers and developers. You understand where each of these roles fits on a project. You’ll need to be comfortable overseeing the work of your colleagues and providing professional guidance and feedback.

Content accessibility

  • You know Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and are familiar with accessibility requirements. You have mastered the plain language, and know how to make content accessible for all clients. You’ll work with accessibility subject matter experts to ensure copy meets requirements. You will participate in usability testing activities, either as an observer or to help conduct tests.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate extensive experience in a UX writing and/or content writing position within an enterprise-level organization, ideally in the financial services, brokerage, or investment industries. You understand how content affects the client experience, but also understand the need to meet business objectives, and find a way to bring the two sides together. You're a writer and editor who’s equally comfortable with UX writing and creative content. And you have in-depth knowledge of style guides and applying them to written work, and familiarity with web accessibility guidelines. It would be great if you have a BA in English or Journalism, and advanced proficiency in French.
  • You’re a problem solver, a listener, and a team player. You see beyond your job responsibilities and help out where you’re needed. You’re comfortable giving feedback on all elements of a project, even when it is outside your area of expertise.
  • You think outside the box, but understand how to write in a tightly-regulated industry. You have experience in/understanding of the financial services industry, ideally in brokerage and investments, and understand the products and services we offer to our clients.
  • You’re familiar with agile and waterfall project experiences, or eager to learn. You have experience working with visual designers, user experience designers, product managers and developers, and understand their roles on a project.
  • You're passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships, and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You build trust through respect and authenticity.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork and accountability.
