Position Description:

The Digital Communications Coordinator plays an important role in building accessible, user-centered online services at the City of Waterloo. As a member of the Corporate Communications team responsible for digital services, this role leads the daily operation of through content updates, data analysis and responses to user feedback. This role also designs, tests and implements new digital services, and provides support for other Corporate Communications online initiatives.


  • Design accessible HTML web content per the style guide
  • Convert technical documents and processes into plain language
  • Build online intake forms and convert services into digital formats 
  • Monitor analytics, quality assurance and online feedback channels
  • Advise on digital service plans and strategy
  • Run user consultation and internal training sessions
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in communications, content design or related field
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience designing and writing accessible content
  • Ability to build trust with internal clients and empathize with users
  • Understanding of WCAG 2.0 and AODA web guidelines
  • Awareness of best practices in content and service design
  • Ability to analyze and present website data
  • Experience with public consultation and online customer service (email and social media)
  • Basic image and video editing skills
  • Previous experience within a Municipal or public sector is preferred
  • Experience with Basic HTML and CSS editing is preferred
  • Experience with iCreate CMS, FormBuilder, Google Analytics, SiteImprove, Cludo or SproutSocial is a plus
  • A satisfactory Police Criminal & Judicial Matters Check will be a condition of hire
