About City Scour

City Scour, founded in 2021, is a software startup in the travel industry. City Scour develops a mobile app with the same name which takes exploration-minded users on guided scavenger hunts (called “scours”). Scours are designed to mix elements of education, history, and fun, and use many ideas taken from video games (XP, levels, achievements, collectibles, etc…).

We launched in January of 2022, and have been continually iterating on our marketing approach and app design and development. Recently, we had a breakthrough in our marketing efforts and are growing quickly. As such, we are looking to grow our team (currently a team of five) to further develop our vision.

City Scour is a fast-paced work environment! We have high expectations for ourselves and hope to attract growth-minded, driven people. If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and build something truly unique with other highly motivated and curious people, don't sleep on this opportunity.

As the content manager, your primary responsibilities will be developing the strategy for and managing the development of in-app content. Our in-app content consists primarily of “scours”, or scavenger hunts, and is extremely critical to the City Scour experience. Without the immersive content we strive for, the City Scour experience would be nothing. You will also serve as the overall “voice of the brand”, developing copy for marketing materials (although will not be responsible for marketing in general), website articles, and more. For each of these areas, you will need to be ready to manage writers (freelance/contract, and in-house in the future), and write yourself. However, over time this role has the possibility of shifting away from writing yourself, and more towards management. As such, you should have an interest in management/leadership.

City Scour currently has a loose framework for what we look for in content. But, we want to design a more structured framework for crafting awe-inspiring in-app content. Since we’re relatively new, you would have a “blank slate” and full autonomy to create immersive and fascinating content.

City Scour is a small team. This means that while your assigned role is content, all team members “wear many hats” and contribute to the overall development and direction of the City Scour experience and product. We think this is a great thing; unlike in a larger company, you aren’t stuck in your silo, and instead get to help shape the overall decisions that guide City Scour. If you prefer to keep your work to one small area of expertise, this is probably not the job for you.

Requirements

  • Experience in editing and writing, with a portfolio of writing examples, both long-form and in-app
  • Interested in management and leadership
  • 3-4 years of experience (a huge plus if you come from the consumer app or software industry)
  • Within commutable distance from Boulder, CO
  • Interested in a long-term position
  • Able to attend local in-person obligations and open to hybrid or full remote in the future
  • Able to work full-time, Monday through Friday

Values

City Scour holds a number of core values close to our hearts. We strive to incorporate these values into everything we do. If you don’t align with these values, City Scour is probably not the right fit for you.

  • Move quickly and iterate test ideas cheaply. Get feedback early. Learn quickly.
  • Be honest: Be honest with others. Be honest with yourself. Hold yourself and others accountable (respectfully).
  • Always innovate: Always try new ideas. Critically think and don’t just follow the course others have set while remaining pragmatic.
  • Success is your responsibility: Your primary role in City Scour is to help improve our company, products and experience.
  • Be excellent: Perform with the craftsmanship and be proud of your work.
