Reporting to the Head of Content Strategy, the Lead Content Strategist plays a key role in the Global Brand Content Studio. The eBay Global Brand Content Studio is the Center of Excellence for content at eBay. We’re a team of creatives, strategists, producers, and content experts that focus on executing high-impact initiatives and set the standard for content quality across the company. We champion the eBay Voice and Tone, develop end-to-end experiences, develop guidelines for other teams to use in the creation of content, and build a forum and methodology to pressure test and review their work with our team and leadership.

This senior role will be responsible for driving strategic conversations with department leads and key partners to develop, design and evolve storytelling that considers all aspects of the customer journey. You’ll own and lead high-impact projects, write strategic narratives that support various stages of content engagement and content types, and identify gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement.

We’re looking for someone with an ambitious mindset and 10+ years of experience in content strategy. You have a consistent track record of developing, implementing, and delivering strategic narratives. Your solid understanding of the power of strategy, digital products, and product marketing support the content development process.

You’ll define how eBay communicates with sellers and buyers in the marketplace, directly informing the content that’s written and produced for multiple channels. You're an effective storyteller who’s passionate about high-impact and data-informed content to support eBay’s audiences.

This is an international role. You’ll be working with colleagues across North America, Europe and Australia.

Your tasks

Brand Integrity

  • Develop a deep understanding of our brand strategy, market, and buyer and seller needs and how they align with the customer journey
  • Gain the needed insight of our buyers and sellers to better service their needs
  • Edit strategic documents to align with brand strategy, guidelines, and tone of voice

Content Strategy & Execution

  • Understand content engagement strategies and how it supports the customer journey
  • Build and scale effective strategic narratives to ensure a unified messaging approach that supports all marketing collateral
  • Educate, inform, and enable content teams to create powerful, on-brand copy, design and video
  • Apply and modify strategy fundamentals to support a range of focused categories
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive strategy, action, and goals
  • Integrate established SEO keyword strategies into strategic narratives
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills and comfort in a sometimes ambiguous, fast-paced environment
  • Review a wide range of content to ensure it aligns to strategic foundations
  • Help plan and lead brainstorming sessions
  • Exceptional interviewing skills and ability to extract key learnings
  • Provide content strategy support for special projects
  • Maintain and build on key relationships and forge new alliances with stakeholders

  • Organized & Results-Oriented Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities within timelines and high expectations.
  • Data-Driven Experience creating data-informed content
  • Educated Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a field such as Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
  • Internationally-Minded Understanding the cultural difference between countries and how to effectively adapt/localize global communications
  • Experienced10+ years of leading strategy would be optimal, but we’re not excluding less experience from those who have a range of applicable skills. Agency/consultancy and/or global firm experience is a plus.
