We are looking for a technical writer who understands that their role involves way more than just putting words on a document. Retail’s technical writer digs into the content they are about to write about so they understand not just how it works, but why it matters to people. You have the flexibility to adapt our style, processes, and practices, but are courageous to suggest improvements that benefit our writers, our collaborators, our staff, or even our customers. Most importantly, you have experience making challenging, complex ideas, concepts, and tasks understandable and appealing to diverse audiences.

You will collaborate across the organization to research and develop usable documentation that enables a wide range of audiences. You will evaluate the information architecture of our documentation sites and our existing content to optimize its usability and be in charge of creating and combining various forms of content including technical documentation, training materials, guides, policies, and best practices for delivery via multiple mediums. Our ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of information management and be ready to equip our team members with the necessary information they need to be successful!

Job Functions:

  • Create and revise technical documentation including user manuals and guides, training manuals, procedures manuals, forms, and On the Job Training (OJT)
  • Identify and implement best practices for tracking the timely closure of SOP revisions
  • Provide refresher training to departmental-sized groups
  • Coordinate interdepartmental meetings to ensure appropriate input is received for maintenance related to all projects and initiatives
  • Research highly technical subject matter, collaborate with internal teams in order to synthesize information from multiple sources, and express technical information in a form that is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers
  • Analyze existing artifacts, enhance and multi-purpose content, focusing on reuse
  • Review materials for accuracy, ?ow, grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting and branding
  • Actively look for best practices through attending webinars, training, and conferences
  • Maintain an internal enterprise documentation library for Retail
  • Edit, standardize, or revise material prepared by other writers or personnel
  • Develop templates, best practices, and standards for various types of documentation

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, English, Education, Business, or other relevant disciplines
  • 3-5 years of experience in a technical writing role designing and delivering documentation targeted at developers, DevOps, or infrastructure and operations teams.
  • Excellent command of the English language and a well-developed understanding of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Familiarity with version control and content management systems, and working knowledge of information management.
  • Experience with the development and maintenance of document repositories or knowledge management tools such as Confluence.
  • Experience documenting the design and use of complex real-time systems
  • Experience with some or all of Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Jira (or other bug databases), Confluence, Perforce (or other source control tools
