Job description

Our client, a well-established and highly-regarded financial services firm with a growing presence across the East Coast, is actively recruiting for a very sharp, self-directed and tech-savvy candidate to join its Learning and Development team for technical writing/editing project work.

While some experience as a Technical Writer is preferred, the firm will consider candidates who have a strong understanding of technology as well as excellent (succinct, clear, accurate) writing skills. This is an outstanding foot-in-the-door opportunity for those who enjoy writing/documentation work.

This is an immediate need.

Things to Know:

  • The focus of the role will be to update User Guides to reflect new or enhanced features of its Salesforce CRM application. The ability to convert complex material into user-friendly terms will be essential.
  • This position will begin as a 3-month contract and has expectations of extension.
  • The position will involve editing existing material as well as original writing for new features or enhancements. This is a high-volume position and requires excellent juggling skills as well as the ability to switch gears readily.
  • A critical component of successful Technical Writing is the information gathering phase (from existing material, subject matter experts, independent research, etc.). Seek candidates whose writing skills are complemented by superb research, collaboration and project management skills.
  • This is technology-driven work in an Agile/Scrum/Kanban environment. Familiarity with Salesforce, Confluence/Wiki, SharePoint, Azure, Snagit, etc. would all be valuable.
  • The position is fully-remote. Candidates must work East Coast hours (~9a – 5:30p EDT).

The L&D team is leading the training strategy, planning, and execution for an evolving, multi-phased implementation of Salesforce CRM. This Technical Writer will be instrumental in developing/updating User Guides to ensure an optimal learning experience for users.

Selected Duties:

Rapidly acquire subject knowledge through various methods including, but not limited to:

  • Collaborate with subject-matter-experts from Training, Tech, or business teams, such as solution architects, developers, engineers, business analysts, or end users
  • Research related topics or user stories in Azure, Confluence/Wiki, or existing materials
  • Use Salesforce by following existing instructions or executing QA test scripts
  • Translate subject knowledge, technical features, and/or cross-functional business processes into concise, easy-to-understand documentation (user guides/manuals, procedures, release notes, eLearning, quick references, course materials, workbooks, etc.).
  • Write simple, step-by-step instructions for new and existing features and processes.
  • Logically organize information, key sections, tables, screenshots, or attachments
  • Produce high-quality writing and screenshots aligned with the internal style guide
  • Flexibly work with tight timelines while prioritizing and completing deliverables on time aligned with Scrum/Agile release cycles.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining SharePoint or OneNote, capturing meeting minutes, etc.

Targeted candidate will offer a BA/BS degree (advanced degree desirable) and 1+ years of writing experience. Technical writing or technical training background is preferred. A strong understanding of information systems is essential.

Other priorities include:

  • Exceptional research skills
  • Highly collaborative work style
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Unwavering commitment to quality
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to convert complex, sometimes ambiguous, concepts into clear, succinct, easy-to-follow, easy-to-implement instructions
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Confluence/Wiki, SharePoint, Azure, Snagit, and eLearning tools would all be valuable. Advanced MS Office skills are assumed and required.

Finally, we seek a go-getter who will thrive in a fast-paced, high-expectations, rapidly-evolving Agile setting; someone who is resourceful, responsive, versatile, flexible, self-directed and mission-driven.

This is an exciting time to join a firm in high-growth mode.

Please forward your resume for prompt consideration. East Coast/Central candidates are preferred.
