Position: Technical Writer
Location: Manassas, VA
Length: Long-term contract position
Hourly rate: Up to $38/hr (W-2, non-benefited)
Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
Overview: We are seeking a Technical Writer to join our team. Candidates with technical writing experience, especially within the defense industry or Navy systems, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create, edit, and review technical documentation, including user manuals, reports, and instructional materials.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather and synthesize complex technical information for a non-technical audience.
- Ensure all written materials meet established standards for clarity, consistency, and accuracy.
- Contribute to document development using tools like Microsoft Office; experience with XML, HTML, JIRA, or DOORS is a plus but not required.
- Participate in team meetings and discussions to align documentation goals with project needs.
Qualifications:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to provide examples of current or past work.
- Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to convey technical concepts clearly.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in technical writing, especially for Department of Defense (DoD) projects or Navy systems (e.g., TCS systems).
- Prior experience in the Navy or working with Navy-specific documentation is a significant plus.
- Knowledge of XML, HTML, JIRA, or DOORS.
Additional Information:
This is a 100% on-site position, with some days requiring work in Manassas, VA, and others in Fairfax, VA.
The hiring process includes one initial screening call, during which writing samples will be requested, followed by either a panel interview or an in-person interview.
