Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

•  Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing.
• Experience working in collaboration with software engineers on a daily basis.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience producing excellent technical documentation for a developer audience.
• Experience with HTML, markdown, or in a Unix environment.
• Experience with or interest in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
• Ability to read and understand source code written in Java, C++, Python and/or JavaScript.
•  Ability to navigate ambiguity, support multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part at Google. They are a key link between engineers, marketing associates, developer advocates, as well as all the external users and developers, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the Google ecosystem.

You develop complex, in-depth communications for internal and external audiences and manage projects that involve coordinating multiple junior writers.

In this role, you'll create content targeted to other engineers. The audience might be third-party developers for platforms such as Android or Google Cloud, or internal engineers working on a variety of Google technology.

Additional Information

(Colorado only*) Minimum full-time salary range between $110,000 - $118,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. *Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Work with a wide range of roles to build and deliver a great information experience for Cloud AI, and help customers solve problems with Google technologies. 
• Research, write and maintain high-quality technical documentation and online content for a variety of audiences, targeting key customer sets and user scenarios.
• Collaborate with other writers and other functions (e.g., Product Managers, UX, Customer Engineers, Solutions Architects, etc.) to research customer needs, plan and prioritize content to meet those needs, and then execute the plan.
• Manage documentation projects and own the cross-product strategy at multiple levels.
• Balance engaging priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
