Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing including writing technical customer-facing materials.
  • Experience working with software engineers on a daily basis.
  • Experience working with source control tools and content management systems (CMS).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in privacy, safety, or security.
  • Ability to understand code in Java, C++, Python, and/or JavaScript.

As a Technical Writer, you'll work with cross-functional stakeholders to lead documentation efforts, focusing on documentation that other developers and Google Trust and Safety analysts use to mitigate abuse. You'll help define the information architecture for the anti-abuse platform and tools sites, create documentation best practices for the organization, and guide engineers to produce good documentation, define concepts, and how-to guides. You will work with the engineering teams to fill out content for the site. You will also work with the Google teams who are using the platform and tools to understand their needs and incorporate it into the documentation.

The Counter Abuse Technology (CAT) organization builds solutions to protect Google products from abuse. Our mission is to create safe experiences for all users on all Google products.


  • Write, publish, and maintain high-quality documentation and online content.
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others and mentor non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
  • Conduct audience analysis and develop documentation deliverables for audience needs.
  • Identify and evaluate documentation deliverables and maintain focus on customer needs.
  • Manage requests from product team stakeholders, make team assignments, and monitor team progress/goals.
