Job description

Company Overview and Culture

Our culture is a team-first mentality built on the Core Values of Customer Love, Growth, Ownership, Authenticity, and One Team which is shared by every single employee. For us at GRIN, this means we prioritize our customers when making decisions; grow as individuals personally and professionally which drives business growth; celebrate our wins, own our failures, learn from our mistakes, and expect everyone to do the right thing; bring our whole selves to work each day; and know that we can accomplish more when we work together with humility.

At GRIN, we don’t just accept differences — we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, our product and our community. We champion and encourage those who bring different perspectives, ideas, and creativity to join our team dedicated to bringing people together across the globe. GRIN is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace where we welcome all people regardless of sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, disability, or other lived experience. GRIN was founded in Sacramento, CA and is committed to 100% remote work. Our Core Business Hours are 9 am-3 pm PST, so we expect all of our employees to work at least during those hours and are flexible on the rest of your hours.

Content Design at GRIN looks at the way we communicate with our customers as an end-to-end journey. We consider content to be a powerful and essential part of that journey. Our content designers work on the product design team and collaborate across GRIN to champion our design language, tell consistent stories, and craft great customer experiences.

The Senior Content Designer will help establish content strategy, contribute to scoping content projects, design content, perform UX writing, review content to boost consistency and quality, and publish content alongside team members and other groups across GRIN. Core to this role is collaborating with cross-functional members of our team such as designers, developers, product managers, and other subject matter experts to create a clear language that is active, readable, and human.

The Senior Content Designer will operate as an individual contributor who reports to the Director of Product Design. They will contribute to establishing our content design presence at GRIN by working across product teams to optimize product and user experiences, as well as drive revenue through improved content. The ideal candidate has formidable writing skills, thrives in scrum, abstract and critical thinking skills, and a nuanced understanding of design and product user experiences.

What you’ll do:

  • Transform customer and business objectives into compelling products that have purpose, and simplicity, and are feasible to build.
  • Manage the content design process for your projects from end to end: Discovery and concept ideation, flows and proto-content, and full-fidelity designs.
  • Drive content-specific deliverables for a specific challenge, such as content audits, messaging frameworks, and dynamic copy solutions.
  • Perform UX writing to develop meaningful messages that support usability metrics, like user task completion, and help users meet their goals.
  • Work closely with the design, PM, marketing, training, and customer success teams to understand customer insights, the purpose of features, and how best to explain them to the right audience.
  • Work on multiple projects at once, using that cross-team vantage point to ensure coherence across different parts of the product.
  • Create artifacts (messaging frameworks, content flows, etc.) to effectively and efficiently communicate your thinking to stakeholders.
  • Help shape the practice of content design at GRIN, displaying its value through your work and evolving processes that continue to optimize how we work as a team.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 4+ years of experience in user experience (UX) writing, content strategy, or content design (candidate must provide samples of their work / portfolio)
  • Knowledge of human-centered design principles and the role content can/should play within a Product Design org
  • Deliver high-quality UI copy that demonstrates the depth of your skills as a problem-solver and writer; illustrated in a portfolio or case studies
  • Demonstrate understanding of when and how to use content design methods to define goals, write, document, and iterate on a copy
  • Experience communicating and presenting complex problems clearly
  • Evaluate the impact of content decisions on end users, business needs, and the overall product

GRIN is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Final compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience as it relates to the role.
