The Website Content Specialist is vital to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of Hamline’s most important communication and recruitment tool, our website. This role takes on complex projects and builds actionable processes while managing a high volume of requests. Operating as project manager, problem solver, and implementer, this role can work autonomously to deliver a large amount of work in a short timeframe. This role is 25% project management, 25% strategy, and 50% implementation.

This role doesn’t just operate in isolation. They’ll lead training efforts within our team and across the university. They are an outspoken advocate for high-quality website content and lead by example through their own work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create efficient processes out of complex website projects.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce a governance plan and processes for the website informed by best practices, accessibility guidelines, user experience, and search engine optimization.
  • Execute a large volume of inbound website tasks from throughout the university.
  • Write, manage, develop and execute compelling and engaging content across digital channels.
  • Create and manage website content calendar.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the university.
  • Assist training partners across the university in managing content using the site’s content management system.
  • Assist in determining the university site's infrastructure and templates; integrate multimedia, portal, and other applications into the website.
  • Assist, as needed, in scheduling, tracking, and prioritizing digital projects. Tasks include determining project staffing requirements, deadlines, status, scope, and content needs and serving as communications liaison for the web and print teams.
  • Other duties as requested.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • This position reports to the Website Manager. This may role may supervise student workers.  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Exceptional organization, presentation, writing, and communication skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented, capable of producing work at a high-quality level. Use close concentration and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent writing skills, and experience writing content for the web.
  • Experience using website content management systems (CMS) (Drupal preferred).
  • Experience with creating, implementing, and enforcing website governance plans enterprise-wide.
  • Strong working knowledge of user experience principles for digital products.
  • Experience with various project management software tools (Workzone, Basecamp, Jira, Smartsheets, Project, etc).
  • Adobe Creative Cloud products (namely Photoshop).
  • Experience in SEO to maximize site visibility and achieve traffic-driving goals.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Familiarity with web analytics tools (ex: Google Analytics).
  • Ability to manage simultaneous projects with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse clientele.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, and Google Tools.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in website content management and publishing.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Experience within higher education is ideal.
  • Experience within complex organizations (large corporations, government) is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS / EQUIPMENT

Must perform the following essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time at the computer; job requires heavy concentration.
  • Ability to work a non-traditional work schedule, as needed.

  • This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE, non-exempt position, 12 months a year.
