Job description

inewsource, a nonprofit newsroom based in San Diego, is seeking a Content Manager to oversee our news publishing strategies and execute them across web, email and social media channels. One of our biggest priorities is growing audiences for our investigative reporting, and this position is central to helping us reach and exceed that goal.

We are looking for a media professional with experience in collaborating with content creators to determine the most exciting and effective ways to engage with multiple audience segments to drive awareness of our investigative work. This is both a strategic and a hands-on job, working side-by-side with the reporting/editing team and the web and social media producers to make the best ideas come to life.

Our investigative reporting is award-winning, high caliber and impactful. That means our Content Manager should be passionate about facts and the truth – which are our brand – but not be afraid to push traditional boundaries to find and engage consumers. We want to try new things!

If you haven’t worked in journalism before, but have communications or marketing experience, we want to hear from you.

This position is a true “bridge role,” which means you work collaboratively with the news and business teams. This position is part of a new organizational structure at inewsource. This is a manager position, supervising a full-time and a part-time staff member, and reporting to the CEO.

We are serious about further diversifying inewsource, and every member of the organization is involved in making sure our workplace is inclusive and welcoming. Our employee DEI committees are committed and active. San Diego is a richly diverse place and we are committed to listening ... and then acting. Equity is a focus of our reporting. If you have lived experience working and reporting with diverse communities, we would love to hear from you.

inewsource is a member of the Trust Project, an international consortium of news organizations dedicated to transparency and helping the public find trustworthy news. Check out our standards and policies.

Right now, we are a team of 20 people, including full- and part-time reporters, editors, an intern and a business team. We have grown over the past few years thanks to a major national validation of our work and a large investment in our long-term sustainability from the American Journalism Project, a venture philanthropy group committed to saving civic news.
