Job description

North Bethesda health and human services consulting firm seeks an organized, detail-oriented bilingual Spanish native speaker to provide Spanish translation and content strategy services for online content and other materials related to early childhood education. Prior experience translating content or providing content strategy support for the Administration of Children and Families Office of Head Start is a major plus but is not essential. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with our internal editorial team, designers, and the Office of Head Start to translate materials on early childhood education issues and programs using a translation management system.
  • Manage workflow, balancing web and social media tasks and assigning and monitoring the work of Spanish translation contractors.
  • Provide editorial review on a wide variety of Spanish language materials, including web and social media content, emails, multimedia resources, and campaign collateral.
  • Use a web content management system to update and publish web pages in Spanish. 
  • Supervise translators working on this project.
  • Engage with a team of talented in-house staff and external consultants in the implementation of consensus-based content.
  • Work in an online content management platform such as Lingotek to move content through the translation and review process. 
  • Ensure all work is consistent with established translation guidelines, glossary, and strategy. 
  • Perform quality assurance and ensure that translations reflect the intended meaning and correspond to target audiences.
  • Maintain Spanish style guide and glossary with editorial policies, standards, and procedures to ensure adherence to them across all materials developed.
  • Manage workflow, balancing web and social media tasks and assigning and monitoring the work of Spanish translation contractors.
  • Write monthly project status reports.

***This position is a hybrid role working in our North Bethesda office 3 days per week***

***Must be able to pass a background check and obtain security clearance/badging through a designated federal agency***

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in translation (Spanish-English), Spanish language/linguistics, or related field; certification in translation from the American Translators Association or equivalent professional certification required.

Language: 

  • English and Spanish fluency (oral and written). 

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in translating, proofreading, and editing Spanish content. Fluency in Spanish grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling. Experience in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or other similar federal agencies or contracting organizations a plus. 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of U.S. Spanish language conventions; familiarity with adhering to and maintaining style guides. The ability to localize translation for specific target audiences (e.g., by geographic region, by country of origin) is strongly preferred, as is the ability to provide strategic content guidance that aligns with target audience needs and preferences. 

Skills:

  • Strong collaborative skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects at once while maintaining attention to detail; strong organizational skills. Commitment to customer/client service.

Software Proficiency:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word) and computer-assisted translation Tools or TMS

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: 

  • MA in translation studies, linguistics, or related field with specialization in education, early childhood development, or health-related subject matter

Experience: 

  • 5 years of experience in translation, proofreading, and editing Spanish content

Knowledge: 

  • Experience with early childhood education issues and familiarity with Head Start is considered a plus.
