The Sr Communications Manager (Sr Content Manager), dedicated to the water and wastewater sector, is a resource in all things related to enhancing content and storytelling with a focus on boosting Kiewit’s recognition as a major player in the market and winning more work with high-quality, client-focused writing. This person is responsible for ensuring each piece of writing produced from the department, either through their own efforts or as delegated to a teammate, includes differentiated reasons to work with Kiewit. 


In every way, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategic and tactical writing needs that support and drive business in the water sector. This means contributing to things like digital/web-based material, awards, marketing collateral, the pursuit of specific content and strategies, executive needs such as memos or business plan content, interview scripts, and anything related to words that attract, nurture, inspire, and retain clients for Kiewit. Not limited, responsibilities include: 

  • Understanding the business priorities and building knowledge of our target audiences across the municipal water/wastewater market. 
  • Lead and/or support the process of writing and submitting content for communications campaigns and requests.
  • Interview executives, engineers, construction managers, legal, designers, and others to generate original construction/engineering-based/technical content.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions for strategic content needs.
  • Provide input and writing for best practices, style guides, and templates to the company. 
  • Assisting with special communication projects as directed by leadership. 
  • Mentor and develop direct reports. 
  • Organize and resource writing needs. 
  • Leverage data and market insights for content optimization and new concept development.
  • Research and implement industry-leading written communication techniques as appropriate.  


We are seeking a leader with exceptional writing capabilities and a degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field of study. The following are the basic qualifications for the role:

  • 10+ years of previous experience with writing in the engineering and/or construction industry and in the public sector 
  • Skilled at collaborating with and interviewing executives, engineers, construction managers, designers, and others to secure information for various writing assignments
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) 
  • Strong writing and client-relations skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to think creatively and collaborate on internal and external teams
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Desire to learn and adapt to new communication principles, tools and technologies
  • High level of motivation and willingness to learn 
  • Strong emotional intelligence 
  • Open to travel (5-10% of the time)
  • Driven for results and deadlines
