Team Philosophy

Pop Acta’s Content team exists to support and expand Pop Acta’s news, information, and data infrastructure with efficiency, accuracy, reach, and brand awareness as primary goals. The following statements serve as descriptions of what success looks like for Pop Acta’s Publishing team.

  • Our priorities and progress are transparently communicated daily.
  • We publish news in a timely fashion and publish updates regularly.
  • Our processes are well documented.
  • We focus on the accuracy of the news and are always on the hunt for breaking news.
  • We work in a fast-paced ever-changing environment and hold ourselves to high standards.
  • We are proud to closely follow better than industry-standard security practices.
  • Mistakes happen but we expect them to be corrected in a timely manner and we expect that we learn from those mistakes and make notes, so we do not make the same mistake twice.
  • Our skill sets are flexible, open to new methods, and ever-growing, we must learn every day from the day before.

Fundamental Team Challenges

These statements are acknowledged as challenges that we expect to face every day as part of our job.

  • The news cycle does not exist on a timeline. Our schedule ebbs and flows depending on what is occurring in the cycle.
  • The development of a strong story angle, email subject lines, and accuracy in a fast-paced environment demands extra time and effort and focus.
  • Our goals are to deliver news in an engaging and accurate way that captures our audiences. There is no pre-made instruction manual for how we accomplish these goals. We will learn from each other in an idea-sharing environment daily.

The focus of the Content Editor is to provide creative content for Pop Acta’s multiple brands. Specific examples include helping other editors find content, writing articles, interfacing with content partners, and assisting wherever else needed.

Responsibilities and Duties

These are the specific areas of focus and review for the Content Editor.

  • Supporting celebrity content partners and freelancers with content publishing.
  • Generate high-quality and original content for Pop Acta brands.
  • Support fellow content editors with finding stories and original writing.

Technical Skills Required

It is not expected for you to have these already, but these are what we’re working towards.

  • Experience in WordPress or similar CSM
  • Proficient writer/editor who pays close attention to detail.
  • Experience in email marketing.
  • Experience in interviewing and working with freelance writers.
  • Updating the Publishing Workflow Document on a weekly basis.
  • Using Asana to keep track of all projects.
  • Updating Notion and the G Drive.
  • Using Slack daily.

Intangibles and Expectations

To best position you for success, it’s worth remembering these factors.

First, this is still a relatively young and small company so there will be some rough edges and things that are unplanned. This is not our goal, but it will take time for all policies and habits to be established. Until then, expectations and norms will change rapidly.

Second, we are outcomes focused. Using quantitative and qualitative factors our success each week is measured by accomplishing the tasks at hand and in the most engaging way possible. Our goal will always be to drive the most interactions per day.
