Job description

Mercy Housing is seeking a dynamic writer who has a passion for crafting results-oriented content. Growth opportunity in a role that requires strong writing skills in diverse mediums including but not limited to print materials, press releases, thought leadership, direct mail, internal announcements, and web content. This individual must be able to create and edit both persuasive and technical writing to promote the business of affordable housing into compelling, easy-to-understand language. He/She is a critical member of the communications team and will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance and approvals from all key decision-makers. Additionally, this role supports the organization's federal housing policy and advocacy efforts.   • Create engaging content for both internal and external communications. Public Relations will include writing press releases and reaching out to media. Manage various vendors like videographers and systems / sites like WordPress, LinkedIn, YouTube, a PR system and more. 
  • Develop enticing copywriting material to increase awareness of Mercy Housing, acquire new donors and increase donations through direct mail and email.
  • Produce and edit content for a variety of written materials, including but not limited to: internal emails, external newsletters, brochures, annual reports, blog, and more.
  • Assist with Public Relations strategy, including writing press releases and media outreach.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of copywriting for marketing materials.
  • Two (2) years of public relations.
  • Two (2) years of nonprofit experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalist, or related field.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of affordable housing and/or nonprofit organization and development of nonprofit communication strategies.
  • Manage details and organization of internal and external communications, public relations; excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivate and inspire others, passion for helping others achieve success. Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, issues prevalent in diverse and under-served communities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
