Our design culture

The Morningstar design team is dedicated to creating thoughtfully designed financial products and services so that people across the world can make the best investing decisions for themselves and their clients. We synthesize complex financial information into experiences that empower our users to deliver better outcomes. The design organization is made up of several disciplines—visual, UX, communications, content, and research—united to help each other, and the whole company, grow. We’re always seeking designers who are motivated, are driven to deliver user-centered outcomes, and are equally committed to craft and compassion.

Morningstar is looking for a content designer to create content experiences for our Individual Investor group. You’ll be responsible for writing, testing, and evolving content for both product and marketing touchpoints. You’ll also be an advocate for thoughtful, clear content as we grow our content practice.

We’re looking for someone who’s:

  • Passionate about solving problems with well-crafted content
  • Able to think about content holistically across product and marketing experiences so we’re telling a cohesive story from end to end, not just individual parts
  • Comfortable writing for different touchpoints—from microcopy and UI components to emails, user guides, and online ads—and pivoting from one type of writing to another
  • Eager to master complex information and translate it to experiences that resonate with our users
  • Dedicated to solving the right problem, not just crafting the right words
  • Deeply collaborative and can bring teams and people together to solve problems

Basic qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience writing for products (mobile and/or web) and marketing experiences
  • A background in content strategy, UX writing, content design, copywriting, or similar writing experience
  • Experience using usage data, user research, or user feedback to make content decisions
  • Experience working with user-centered design
  • Experience working with design systems and style guides
  • Examples of your work that showcase how you use content to solve problems in product UI and user-facing experiences such as emails, user education, and landing pages


  • Write and edit copy for product and marketing experiences, including UI components, user guides, emails, marketing pages, and other content across the Individual Investor group
  • Work with product designers, engineers, and colleagues in product and marketing to understand the user and business requirements and craft clear, relevant copy that addresses those needs
  • Partner with colleagues to conduct, analyze, and socialize user research and feedback so we can better understand the needs of our users
  • Communicate your copy decisions to teammates and stakeholders, actively seek feedback, and provide feedback to others
  • Help the content team further define content guidelines, best practices, and the voice and tone of our product and marketing experiences
  • Advocate for content and its role in solving user and business needs
