Job description

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is the largest manufacturing association in the United States, representing manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. The mission of the NAM is to be the voice for all manufacturing in the United States.

This position is a key member of the MLC team and handles important responsibilities vital to the team’s success and its members’ satisfaction. The Content Director is responsible for helping to create and deliver the MLC’s thought-leadership content to MLC and NAM members at live and virtual events and in MLC publications, including the Manufacturing Leadership Journal. Importantly, the Content Director will work with members of the MLC team as well as members of other NAM units to achieve these goals.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Master Class Series – MLC’s Master Class Series, associated with MLC’s Rethink Summit annual conference, consists of panel discussions, webinars, and technology-related interviews delivered before and after the June Rethink event. The Content Director would be responsible for helping to develop ideas and subject matters for these events, serving as moderator on selected events, recruiting industry speakers, and using MLC content, including research data, in them, where appropriate.
  • Leading Edge – Now in the process of being revamped, this program, geared to C-suite constituents in manufacturing companies, will require the Content Director to help ideate, develop, and deliver content in both in-person and virtual events and webinars.
  • MLC Decision Compass webinar calls – The MLC will be expanding its roster of special interest groups to five, from four, in 2022. The Content Director will be responsible for managing one of these groups. This requires topic identification in consultation with members, identification of speakers, review of presentation materials, moderation of sessions, and any required follow-up. The Content Director would be responsible for approximately eight of these webinars per year.
  • Manufacturing Leadership Journal – The MLC publishes this digital magazine six times per year, with each issue aligned with a Critical Issue. Content Director would be responsible for editing contributions from initial draft to finished page and occasionally researching and writing original articles.
  • Research Surveys – The MLC fields, analyzes and writes reports on six survey subjects, each year aligned with its Critical Issues agenda. The Content Director would be responsible for approximately one to two of these surveys, from design to finished report. The reports are published in the ML Journal.
  • MLC Events – The Rethink Summit, MLC’s flagship conference, is an annual, three-day conference consisting of keynote speakers, panel discussions, think tanks, and facilitated networking events. MLC’s new Manufacturing in 2030 event is a one-day event focused on long-term planning. The Content Director would be involved in both events, helping with program development, identifying speakers, moderating panels and think tank sessions.
  • Manufacturing Leadership Awards Program – This annual awards program consists of 14 award categories, submissions for which are independently judged by an industry panel. Content Director would be involved in helping to present awards at the annual ceremony at the ML Summit.
  • Plant Tours – The MLC produces four to five in-person and several virtual plant tours per year for its members. Content Director would be responsible for attending some of these events and producing reports from them.

The above list of responsibilities is representative of the position and is not intended to limit or preclude other responsibilities and tasks that may be associated with or added to the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
