UX Writer

The State of Michigan is seeking a talented and motivated UX Writer to join our team and play a crucial role in creating exceptional user experiences across our digital products and services. As a UX Writer, you will collaborate closely with UX experts, development teams, and business stakeholders to translate complex information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content. In addition, you will contribute to documenting the State of Michigan's design system and establish best practices for content creation. Key Responsibilities UX Writing and Editing: Collaborate with UX designers to incorporate content strategy and UX writing principles into the design process. Write and edit user interface (UI) text, microcopy, error messages, notifications, and other user-facing content to improve usability and enhance the overall user experience.

Design System Documentation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain and evolve the State of Michigan's design system documentation, ensuring it reflects current industry standards and best practices. Establish content style guidelines, tone of voice, and brand voice principles. Advocate for consistent and cohesive content across different digital touchpoints.

Content Strategy and Creation: Craft engaging and user-focused content for various digital platforms, including websites, mobile applications, and online forms, ensuring consistency and clarity. Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information and translate complex concepts into easily understandable language for diverse user groups. Conduct content audits and updates to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with plain language principles. Participate in brainstorming sessions and provide valuable insights to improve user experiences through effective content.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, UX Design, or a related field.
• Proven experience in UX writing, content strategy, or related roles, preferably in a digital product development environment.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a focus on plain language and accessibility.
• Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and the ability to apply them to content creation.
• Familiarity with design systems, style guides, and content management systems.
• Knowledge of UX design principles, information architecture, and usability best practices.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
