Job description

Northern Trust is seeking an exceptional Marketing Content Specialist to join our Asset Servicing Marketing Team to develop and drive marketing and sales content that promotes Northern Trust’s products and services. We seek proactive, energetic team members who value collaboration and can think both strategically and tactically.

Working independently (with general supervision as needed), the ideal candidate will be responsible for creating marketing content and thought leadership to support business unit priorities. This role works with channel and product marketing specialists to create content for marketing campaigns, including press releases, articles and longer-form thought leadership content for both paid and earned media; and assists in projects as needed. This role provides a broad level of B2B writing and communications support, and is comprised of strategy, execution, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams, alongside project management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work with the marketing specialists and subject matter experts to develop, draft and / or direct the development of compelling financial B2B marketing content for external purposes which may include BU - specific press releases, articles, white papers, market trends, commentaries, promotional communications, scripts, talking points, etc.
  2. Create audience-centric messages that resonate and foster specific audience action steps.
  3. Work closely with marketing and PR partners (internally and externally) to ensure proper positioning of business unit content.
  4. Work with business-level subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand financial products and services and create related content.
  5. Research and draft content specific to BU themes, products, and priorities to increase media opportunities for key spokespeople.
  6. Stay abreast of industry trends and make content recommendations to market and drive business.
  7. Effectively project manage content creation from idea generation to promotion-ready version.
  8. Assist with proofreading and editing materials as needed. Assist in other ad hoc projects and assignments.
  9. Carry out complex activities with significant financial, client, and / or internal business impact.
  10. May have direct interaction with committees and / or Senior Management.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

  • Expertise in the principles of marketing, communication and public relations, acquired through a formal degree program and / or related work experience.
  • Excellent technical writing, editing, creative and proof-reading skills are required.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to adapt to new assignments and deadlines is required.
  • Attentiveness to detail is required to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Relationship building skills and experience in managing multiple complex stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry is a definite plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, OneDrive and PowerPoint).

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A college or university degree in English, public relations, communications, or equivalent is required, and a minimum of 3 years of related work experience (financial services industry a plus).
  • Corporate marketing or agency content-writing experience preferred.
