Job description

NWEA is seeking an experienced Professional Learning Content Designer for a full-time position. In this role, you will design new literacy-focused professional learning services that include professional learning offerings, instructional support tools & guidance for educators aimed at expanding and deepening their pedagogical practice. Current projects include a focus on literacy instruction (beginning with PK-3, growing to 3-12), including but not limited to, instruction based on the Science of Reading, grade-level complex text instruction, and the integration of writing instruction. The Content Designer leverages their deep content and pedagogical knowledge, to design products that set a clear vision and action for high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction teachers can implement with students. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in K-5 literacy education, and experience in applying content and curricular concepts to professional learning as well as experience in developing professional learning curriculum and materials for workshops with educators.

Responsibilities 

  • Design effective and cohesive professional learning offerings centered on the most pertinent problems of practice facing literacy educators in the field today.
  • Innovate beyond existing professional learning models to best fit educator needs, while contributing to proprietary suites of tools and resources to support literacy instruction
  • Lead the design of the project across several phases of development leveraging existing processes and creating new processes and protocols where necessary
  • Understand national trends in curriculum, standards, alignment, and instructional practice, evaluating their impact and efficacy as they relate to professional learning design
  • Integrate peer-reviewed research into professional learning to support educators’ literacy practice
  • Participate in collaborative, cross-functional design strategy and review initiatives to ensure consistent organizational positioning and alignment on excellent and equitable literacy instruction
  • Collaborate to create and help deliver the training program for facilitation staff that will be delivering the offering in the field
  • Actively seek out conference and presentation opportunities to share professional learning designs with the external market, in support of building NWEA’s credibility and reputation in the teaching and learning field
  • Collaborate with the Design team and cross-functional colleagues on analysis, evaluation, application of feedback, learning targets/success criteria, and content outlines
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to create a seamless partner experience
  • Plan and oversee efforts related to beta and user experience testing
  • Travel, as required, for the team and/or organizational meetings as well as oversight and gathering of feedback related to beta and piloting work

Skills and Abilities 

  • Skilled in initiating and drawing upon innovative and creative ideas in the design of NWEA Professional Learning services
  • Passion for and deep expertise in college and career-ready standards in literacy
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant pedagogy and its application in literacy instruction
  • Deep understanding of the issues pertinent to K-12 content, curriculum, delivery methods, and instruction as they relate to professional learning
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in designing high-quality, professional learning activities, materials, and resources
  • Ability to facilitate individual and team conversations to elicit ideas and “collective knowledge” from a variety of educational professionals and stakeholders throughout the Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE) phases of NWEA Academic Services Professional Learning Development
  • Ability to work effectively and manage projects in a growing organization
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide variety of educators and internal and external stakeholders 

Education and Experience 

  • 3+ years teaching or administration in a K-12 school setting required
  • 3+ years of experience in applying K-12 curricular concepts in literacy to professional learning required
  • 3+ years of experience in the development of professional learning curriculum required
  • Experience in classroom formative assessment practice is required
  • 3+ years experience in literacy instruction via classroom teaching, coaching, leadership, and/or curriculum design
  • 3+ years delivering professional learning for educators preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in the development of materials for workshops preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in K-12 or a closely related field preferred
