Job description

Want to help tell the story of New York City to the world?

At NYC & Company, New York City’s official tourism organization, that’s both our pleasure and our responsibility. We are a team of proud New Yorkers and New Yorkers at heart who love representing the five boroughs to the globe. Through writing, film, photography and design, NYC & Company’s Creative/Content Group produces inspiring work that reflects New York City’s energy and diversity. That work can be seen in a range of digital and social channels, including the Webby Award-winning nycgo.com; across key programs like NYC Restaurant Week®; and through partnerships with leading tourism and hospitality organizations at home and worldwide. We champion collaboration, and we are looking for a like-minded team player to join us.

About NYC & Company

Our mission has always been to help build prosperity and to share the positive image of New York City with the world. Now, in the wake of 2020’s paradigm shifts, that mission has become more urgent than ever. As the City continues reopening, we at NYC & Company are charged with helping to ensure that all New Yorkers benefit from a renewed economy, in particular those in BIPOC communities who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. In pursuit of that goal, we are committed more than ever to featuring diverse voices in our channels who speak to NYC’s many cultures.

We are seeking applicants for a Senior Content Director to assist us in this mission and become a member of the Creative/Content Group.

The successful candidate will be an experienced writer and editor with a sharp eye for what makes a fascinating story; have a roster of knowledgeable local writers ready to deploy; perform well under pressure and have excellent time-management skills; be a team player, willing to collaborate; and be able to consistently deliver high-quality work on tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Advocating for and championing BIPOC voices in our coverage
  • Recruiting a network of diverse contributors who can authentically speak to the character of the City

  • Assisting in programming our channels, collaborating with Creative/Content leads across disciplines on strategies and rollout plans
  • Partnering with Creative/Content team leads and department heads on a range of projects and campaigns
  • Collaborating with digital media and social teams on daily posts, and assisting with influencer initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal content development processes and tools

Qualifications:

  • Superb editorial judgment and strong knowledge of New York City
  • 8+ years of journalism or agency experience
  • A proven record of producing compelling content that speaks to culture and diversity
  • Familiarity with digital platforms, including social and email
  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
