API TECHNICAL WRITER OVERVIEW (remote*): The API Technical Writer will create technical content primarily for developers who are working with one of our products. This position has a direct report of an existing technical writer that handles the existing API documentation needs. As a Product Learning & Development team member, you will work with other technical writers on another team and report to the senior manager. You will work with product managers, engineers, and others throughout the organization to understand the product and create helpful, clear, accurate documentation. 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create comprehensive technical documentation for a wide audience, both internal and external.
  • Manage revisions to existing API documentation and create documentation for new APIs or new use cases.
  • Resolve reported documentation issues.
  • Identify new documentation needs or opportunities.
  • Work with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to determine project requirements.
  • Develop documentation plans and schedules.
  • Maintain consistency in tone and style. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE & CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • A self-starter with great attention to detail, strong time-management and decision-making skills
  • Ability to learn systems quickly and become a product expert
  • Ability to develop cross-functional rapport and relationships with product managers, engineers, account managers, and others
  • Ability to scope and plan technical writing deliverables based on product plans, prototypes, and specifications
  • Solid research, requirements gathering, planning, writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills
  • Experience creating visuals such as screenshots and videos using screen capture and screen recording tools such as Snag-It and Camtasia
  • Ability to understand new APIs, learn how they work, and document them in a concise and easy-to-follow manner 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in English or related field, OR BA in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience working in a technical writing position.
  • 7+ years experience documenting, testing, and developing API documentation
  • Expertise in documentation structure.
  • Expertise in documenting REST APIs.
  • Experience using Swagger for API documentation.
  • Experience using Confluence and Jira.
  • Experience with HTML, JSON, YAML, XML (preferred).
  • Experience with MadCap Flare.
  • Experience using Git.
  • Excellent written and verbal English-language communication skills.
  • An eye for improving existing work.

*This role is remote. If you live w/in commuting distance of our NYC or Atlanta office, there will be a flex in-office/remote policy at a future date. If you live outside of those areas, the role will remain remote.
