Job description

Oracle's Global Business Units (GBUs) provide best-in-class SaaS services for the communications, construction / engineering, financial services / insurance, health sciences, hospitality, public sector, and retail industries. The GBU Architecture User Interface / User Experience team develops common frameworks and UI components for use across all business units and provides architectural guidance/support to individual GBU teams in technical and general user experience domains. 

Our team focuses on creating frameworks and macro components that get used across these multiple groups. A successful candidate will have solid experience documenting reusable frameworks.

We seek top-notch, very senior technical writers with deep understanding of Single Page Applications and experience documenting Frameworks APIs and SDKs. You will also collaborate closely with our UI Development team and our UX team to generate world-class developer guides. If you enjoy a challenge and seek to influence your work and working environment, this may be the opportunity for you.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with engineers and product managers as APIs and SDKs are developed to author documentation in real-time
  • Deliver accurate partner-facing documentation on time and with a high degree of quality 
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives around authoring environments, development processes, and automation tooling
  • Work closely with other members of the technical content team to ensure consistency in workflow and writing style
  • Collaborate with the user experience team to ensure that technical content — including documentation, UI text, and other forms of assistance — are discoverable, usable, and pleasing to the partners

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Experience developing API and SDK documentation
  • Knowledge of Single Page Application concepts and technologies
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript. HTML and CSS
  • Impeccable written English skills 
  • Strong team player with outstanding communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. We believe the HOW is as important as the WHAT.
  • A history of fearless hands-on investigation and product use and a strong customer advocate mentality
  • Comfort with agile, swiftly changing, dynamic software development situations
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Ability to establish and follow style and usage guidelines
  • Ability to write examples in JavaScript or Typescript (with some assistance from UI developers)
  • Ability to drive, follow, and evangelize cross-team processes
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a writing-intensive field, or significant work experience in startups or fast-paced enterprise technology development environments

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with software localization and accessibility guidelines
  • Experience using distributed source code management systems, such as Git
  • Experience using enterprise-grade bug tracking systems, such as JIRA
  • Experience and commitment to capturing and maintaining institutional knowledge 

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.

As a member of the technical writing division, you will design, create and deliver whole product documentation sets and/or related courseware. Edit, organize and direct the work activities of other technical writers and staff. Plan the format, arrange the layout of publications and edit work for conformance to publication standards and specifications.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
