1. Supporting client projects

  • Helping to design and develop approaches to user research, testing and data analysis
  • Designing and conducting surveys, questionnaires, user testing exercises and other activities to help us gather the insights needed for our clients’ user experience success
  • Reviewing, analysing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative feedback to help make sense of the data and extract meaningful and useful insights
  • Preparing reports for clients and informing the work of other members of the Pickle Jar Communications team, particularly the Content team.
  • Using a range of analytics and insights technologies to understand how content, services, and the overall user experience is performing for our clients, identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and key audience insights
  • Using skills and knowledge of research, statistics and data presentation and manipulation to help us develop new approaches to research and insights for client projects, including trialling and testing new software and technologies to support such activities
  • Conducting desk research to inform competitor benchmarking activities and reports.

2. Business development and sales support

Everybody in the Pickle Jar Communications team plays an active role in supporting business development, along with our own marketing and sales activities. The User Researcher will provide support with business development activities by:

  • Working on the development of new business proposals and participating in pitch meetings, including designing projects for clients
  • Participating in ideas generation and creative sessions to help inform new business activity and new business proposals
  • Developing research plans and recommendations for prospective clients
  • Representing the company at conferences and events (ideally with a vision and willingness to speak at conferences and events too)
  • Contributing to the company blog and social media accounts

3. Supporting others in the team

Pickle Jar Communications is a small and close-knit team, with significant overlap in roles and projects. As such, colleagues support one another in a number of ways, in addition to their role-specific duties. This will involve working on projects and deliverables, as well as:

  • Assisting with office management activities and tasks, including admin support such as monitoring email accounts and updating the company website
  • Contributing to the whole team’s understanding of education sector trends and best practice
  • Actively engaging in training activities offered to you, and contributing to training activities for others where relevant and required.

The person

Essential

  • Experience (can be through studies) of interpreting and manipulating data in a range of formats for others to understand, including lay audiences
  • Experience of designing and developing research approaches to answer key questions
  • Experience of user research such as testing or other qualitative methods
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of managing several competing priorities
  • A strong attention to detail
  • A strong interest in human behaviour and the advancement of the education sector
  • A strong interest in, and passion for, research and insight
  • An understanding of the strategic objectives and needs of the education sector.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the education sector
  • Experience of working in a role or on projects that involved research and data analysis
  • Experience of preparing reports and presentations
  • Experience of delivering presentations
  • Experience of using research and analytics tools such as survey platforms, analytics tools, or mobile ethnography
  • Ability to clearly understand and explain the benefits of different research approaches and methodologies to answer different types of questions, including quantitative and qualitative approaches.
