Job description

Currently, RG is looking to hire a Technical Writer to support our Air Force Agile development project team in providing high-quality writing expertise and support in developing a compelling and modernized customer experience for our client’s enterprise-level planning and scheduling software platform. This role will be critical in supporting our customer’s overarching mission of consolidating existing systems into a single user-focused platform that meets the needs of the stakeholders and user community.

A successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to create system documentation, instruction manuals, how-to guides, journal articles, and other supporting documents communicating complex and technical information to all levels of the audience.

A Day In the Life:

To help make our customers successful, the chosen candidate can expect to be involved with or responsible for:

  • Planning, developing, organizing, writing, and editing operational procedures and manuals
  • Producing electronic documentation in addition to hard copy manuals
  • Analyzing documents to maintain continuity of style of content
  • Managing updates and revisions to technical literature
  • Working with technical staff to ensure accuracy of product descriptions
  • Explaining scientific and technical ideas in simple language, ensuring technical verbiage is easy to understand by the layperson
  • Providing technical direction on product announcements, marketing brochures, advertisements, and marketing specifications to the marketing team
  • Preparing screenshots, charts, graphs, or other images to be used in collateral
  • Helping document and create processes around software development activities and product lines
  • Adjusting copy as necessary, proofreading for grammar and spelling, and submitting copies to managers for feedback

This role plays an important and vital part in mission success. The ideal candidate must be able to distill complex information into clear, concise text. They must have excellent writing and grammar skills and be able to work independently, delivering accurate documentation under deadline pressure. The candidate must know a variety of software programs so they can write text, create charts and graphs, and incorporate diagrams and photos into documents. Some tech writing jobs also require editing, proofreading and document publishing abilities. Multimedia skills, such as blogging, Web design and video production, are also becoming increasingly important.

Required Skills

The Technical Writer is an exempt business professional who performs a wide range of routine clerical, support, or administrative tasks while providing support to employees and/or vendors for business operations. They may also provide subject matter expertise within a specialized function.

Communication Experience Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deliver high-quality documentation paying attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking

Required Experience

To be successful in this role, all candidates must meet the below qualifications to be considered.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Technical Writing or a related field, such as journalism or a Bachelor of Science degree in a technology-related discipline
  • 3+ years of professional technical experience
  • 2+ years of experience with Microsoft SharePoint
  • Proven working experience in technical writing of software documentation
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic familiarity with the SDLC and software development
  • Ability to travel nationwide for client meetings if required (anticipated <10%)
  • NACI or ability to obtain

  • Previous technical writing experience supporting Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul within either the Industrial Base or Organic Industrial Base
  • Experience with creating graphics
  • Experience with creating user training
  • Experience with desktop and electronic publishing
  • Current Secret clearance or ability to obtain
