Sabre Systems is currently hiring a Technical Writer III to support our E-6B customer at Patuxent River Naval Station. The selected applicant will develop, write, and edit materials for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment, receive assignments from the supervisor, observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.

The Technical Writer III will interview production and engineering personnel and read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods, and reviews manufacturer’s and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment. The Technical Writer III studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail, organizes material and completes writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; and reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. 

The selected applicant may perform the following tasks: 

  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions
  • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate the material
  • Provide support in laying out material for publication
  • Arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material
  • Write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel¬†

The Technical Writer III may specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures. Primarily responsibilities include creating and maintaining all technical documents requisite with the E-6B software product packages.  

This includes:

  • Software User Manual (SUM)
  • Software Version Description (SVD)
  • Interface Control Document (ICD)
  • Software Requirements Specification (SRS)
  • Software Design Description (SDD)
  • Software Development Plan (SDP)
  • and more

The ideal candidate would have a software development background. The candidate will work closely with the server and network engineers to update SVDs, User Manuals, troubleshooting steps, network diagrams, etc. and then verify the procedures on the system. Most of the documentation is in Microsoft Word and Visio. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn the systems they are writing documentation for and will be integrated with the engineering team. The career path for this position has the potential to progress into a test position.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must have 30 hours of technical/vocational training in English-related training (i.e.- journalism, communications, or English literature), or technical training (i.e.- computer science, business, or chemistry) at an accredited technical/vocational school
  • Two (2) years performing as a technical writer/Requirements manager in support of DoD systems
  • Must have a current DoD Secret Clearance or higher and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen¬†
