Job description

Working with the director of corporate communications and content, establishes an overall content strategy for the Sentry brand to support business objectives. Guides content team on execution of strategy, overseeing content production and ensuring created content supports Sentry's mission, vision, and strategic objectives. Directs and reviews all content drafted by brand journalists and freelance copywriters and ensures their storytelling aligns with Sentry's tone of voice and overall content strategy. Drafts content for complex projects and maintains a consistent writing style to ensure all materials reflect the Sentry brand.

What You'll Do:

  • Participates in strategic meetings with business units to ensure an accurate understanding of their needs as it relates to content strategy.
  • Helps define big themes, stories, and narratives of Sentry messaging that allows the business to better connect with customers.
  • Sets the direction of all content to ensure it aligns with the brand and business objectives.
  • Works with the Search and Personalization Editor to help win more real estate for search (paid and organic) through a focus on intent-based content.  
  • Leverages analytics and metrics to better understand audiences and develop more effective content across all platforms, with a keen eye on digital media.
  • Develops and manages a team of freelance writers to help meet the growing content needs of the business.
  • Assigns brand journalists and freelancers to projects and reviews all developed content for alignment with the strategy.
  • Reviews and edits all content to ensure a consistent Sentry tone of voice, style, and accurate alignment to business expectations.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with all management levels to ensure an understanding of project scopes, timelines, and budgets. Ensures all brand journalists and freelancers are adhering to those parameters.
  • Maintains an understanding of Sentry’s business objectives, the marketplace, and target audience. Ensures all content created aligns with business strategies.
  • Collaborates with Brand Management, Creative and Digital teams to ensure all content aligns with marketing designs and all materials are presented in an effective layout for business units.
  • Understands and ensures all content is applying the corporate brand standards and adheres to legal and compliance regulations
  • Manages all associates assigned writing projects, not just direct reports, to ensure consistent adherence to the overall content strategy.
  • Administers human resource-related activities with direct reports including timely performance and salary reviews and ensures all subordinates adhere to human resources policies and practices. Selects, develops, motivates, and recognizes staff.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

What It Takes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience in professional content management; at least five years of experience managing people.
  • An understanding of evolving content consumption trends.
  • Understanding of search trends, and backend analytics to inform content direction.
  • Experience working with digital content and a passion for understanding emerging trends in digital content and its role in digital transformation. 
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading skills.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to build individual pieces that come together to make a powerful big picture.
  • A natural curiosity and passion that helps make the content interesting, innovative and engaging.
  • Ability to hold constructive conversations with leaders to determine the best approach to problem-solving for the business.
  • Instinctual collaborator with the ability to manage multiple projects and build positive relationships with people across the organization.
