Job description

SilverAssist is a fast-growing company looking to expand its content team with the addition of the Content Editor. The person in this role will help usher web content through the production process and assist with other team initiatives. The ideal candidate has at least two years of copy editing experience and is familiar with the editorial process. They are dedicated to ensuring that written content is accurate, clear, and valuable to readers. This role supports the content team and reports to the Director of Content.

The ideal candidate for this position has skillful attention to detail. They take pride in using commas correctly, using em dashes — but only when appropriate — to enhance information, and ensuring accuracy through fact-checking. The ideal candidate operates with the reader in mind on both micro and macro levels and strives to create clear, correct, and valuable content. As a team member, the ideal candidate is not afraid to ask questions, communicates well through email and messaging platforms like Slack, collaborates when needed but can work independently to complete tasks, and wants to work together toward common goals. Professionally, the ideal candidate has experience with the editorial process, understands the audience of their content, and believes that all content they work on must have integrity and uphold the highest quality standards.

About The Role

Content editing: 70%

  • Fact-check, copy edit, and proofread resource content articles, adhering to AP Stylebook and internal style guidelines to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Provide feedback to writers as needed.
  • Fact-check, copy edit, and proofread existing content for updates.
  • Work with assets, such as images, within the CMS accompanying the articles and content.
  • Produce resource content in SilverAssist’s websites’ CMS.

Other content team tasks: 30%

  • Collaborate with the Director of Content and other internal stakeholders to maintain an in-house style sheet.
  • Assist the Director of Content in content ideation and research initiatives as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of writing assignment documents.
  • Update the production schedule platform to reflect content project statuses.

Candidate Qualifications

Required skills and competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, English, journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2+ years of professional editing experience.
  • Experience with Google Docs.
  • Familiarity with AP Stylebook.
  • Impeccable English grammar, punctuation, style, and usage skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex concepts for a lay audience.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of SEO best practices

This is a hybrid position. You will work from home many days but must be available to work in our Manhattan office some days as needed.
