SMX is seeking a Technical Writer to provide engineering support in the production of reports, manuals, procedures, and other supporting technical documentation to support the development and implementation of the Expeditionary – Process, Exploitation, and Dissemination Cell (E-PED) capability. The Technical writer will also assist with the creation and review of technical documentation and diagrams, the creation and review of user-centric content (how-to, FAQ, etc.), management of the existing knowledge base, and support in development. The Technical Writer is also responsible for the creation and management of necessary meeting articles/artifacts such as, but not limited to agendas, meeting minutes (inclusive of attendee tracking and action item capture), presentations, schedules, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizes and manages the content on SharePoint sites, Jira, and other online resources
  • Writes and edits procedural documentation such as user guides, SOPs, and manuals
  • Determines the type of publication that will best serve the project requirements
  • Meets with SMEs, Program Managers, and project managers to learn about specific products or processes
  • Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding
  • Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines
  • Understand new features, learn how they work, and document them in crisp, easy-to-follow language

Required Skills

  • Ability to obtain a DoD secret security clearance
  • Strong skills in creating intuitive technical presentations
  • Strong skills in creating a clean and informative solution and infrastructure architecture diagrams and tools needed to create them
  • Strong skills in creating Wikis, Confluence project pages or using similar content management solutions
  • Strong skills in creating technical user manuals and how-to guides
  • Strong skills in managing and organizing information and content
  • Good understanding of different modern solution architectures like n-tier solutions, microservices, etc
  • Good understanding of different cloud computing providers and solutions
  • Good understanding of Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Strong written and verbal communications experience working with content in multiple mediums
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint and PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio

Required Experience

  • 5+ years overall experience as a Technical Writer with emphasis on developing documentation and guidance related to cloud-native solutions
  • 3+ years developing solution architecture diagrams and guidance documentation
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, English, Technical Writing, or a related field and/or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Department of Defense customers, processes, and terminology
