About the Team 

The Communications and Marketing team is responsible for building and protecting the College Board's reputation, overseeing the organization's communications efforts, and growing the organization’s three highest priority areas: AP, SAT Suite, and BigFuture, which are designed to increase educational access and opportunity for all students. We are a close-knit, dedicated team with a track record of success in promoting the work of the College Board to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, educators, policymakers, the media, member organizations and staff.  

As our Director of Content, you’ll bring your creative approach and ability to develop SEO-driven strategies to promote organic search growth across the College Board with a focus on our BigFuture college search and planning platform. You will be responsible for leading the creation of best-in-class content that is implemented across all of our digital touchpoints. You will also serve as a collaborative partner to our product and marketing teams to deliver on KPIs, having accountability for reach, growth, and reputation. As a key part of our marketing organization, you’ll manage and lead a team of 4- 5 content writers with a focus on quality and execution excellence.    

In this role, you will:  

Strategy (50%) 

  • Craft a customer-centric strategic plan to deliver diverse marketing content and materials including websites, marketing collateral, emails, sales materials, web content, and videos in support of marketing and growth objectives 
  • Continuously monitor and identify SEO content needs for a variety of different channels and develop content strategies with search opportunity, keyword analysis, and intent 
  • Monitor competitors taking appropriate actions to establish, achieve, and maintain an advantage; evaluate keywords and execute tactics to establish healthy rankings; research and borrow from competitive tactics to remain a top player in the market 
  • Establish partnerships and network with external organizations, publishers, bloggers, and social influencers to introduce new traffic to our websites and reinforce our reputation  

Content Design & Implementation (30%) 

  • Have a robust understanding of technical SEO and be able to design solutions and/or effectively communicate needs and delegate to others on the team 
  • Collaborate with Technical SEO Team on activities such as but not limited to assisting with A/B testing strategy and landing page optimizations, as needed 
  • Oversee content team portfolio, schedules, budgets, and on-time delivery of marketing content across all channels – easily communicate project statuses to stakeholders and leadership 
  • Create digital content and provide proofreading support, and advise content team on best practices to optimize email funnel campaigns, blog posts, and social media content  
  • Collaborate with Growth Analytics and Optimization teams to improve KPIs through impact measurement, performance analysis, and SEO content optimization  

Team Management (20%) 

  • Effectively mentor and manage a team of content writers and managers to ensure continuous engagement and effective work towards accomplishing growth goals and best practices  

About You 

You have: 

  • Expertise in data-driven content marketing strategies with 6-8 years of writing and editorial experience for content executed via digital platforms 
  • Veteran SEO experience including growing a website’s organic traffic through content creation 
  • Experience managing diverse creative content in support of the product, marketing, and sales projects and objectives spanning across paid and owned channels 
  • Proven ability to set strategic vision and direction through leading others to meet aligned goals and metrics   
  • Adept problem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions   
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, facilitating meetings and presenting remotely and in-person to groups of 15 or more  
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence others to action 
  • Outstanding knowledge of emerging trends and best practice in SEO and Content Strategy 
  • Website/Mobile content management, creative management, and/or UX experience is highly desired 
  • Bachelor’s degree required – emphasis in Marketing, Communications, or comparable experience is desired 
  • A passion for supporting educational and career opportunities for millions of students 
  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 2-3 times per year or <10% for in-person meetings/gatherings
