Who are we?

We are The Motley Fool, a purpose-driven financial information and services firm with nearly 30 years of experience focused on making the world smarter, happier, and richer. But what does that even mean?! It means we’re helping Fools (always with a capital “F”) demystify the world of finance, beat the stock market, and achieve personal wealth and happiness through our products and services.

The Motley Fool is firmly committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity. We are a motley group of overachievers that have built a culture of trust founded on Foolishness, fun, and a commitment to making the world smarter, happier and richer.  However you identify or whatever winding road has led you to us, please don't hesitate to apply if the description above leaves you thinking, "Hey! I could do that!"

What does this team do?

We launched The Ascent within The Motley Fool to rate and review critical financial products like credit cards, mortgages, brokers, banking accounts, insurances, personal loans, and more. There’s some good (and a lot of bad) advice out there, and we’re cutting through the noise that often leaves people feeling helpless and insecure about these key financial decisions. From the tools we build, to our thorough and impartial reviews, to our overall design, we’ll highlight what matters - and save our reader’s time.

The Ascent has a large, and growing, content library to maintain and the products highlighted on site are always evolving. The compliance team navigates this environment to ensure products we review are accurate sitewide.

What would you do in this role?

The compliance strategist will work with the content director for The Ascent on the effective implementation and administration of the brands’ compliance program. This position also collaborates closely with The Ascent team spanning content and editorial, legal, paid media, and tech.

You would be proactively mitigating compliance risks through automated and manual content reviews and working with affiliate partners on product updates and launches to ensure content is always up-to-date and meets regulatory requirements.

But what does this role actually do?

  • You will proactively identify compliance risks and resolve them in a timely manner to achieve strong compliance results.
  • You will be wearing many hats in your day-to-day work. One day you may be collaborating with our content team to educate on compliance best practices to support growing our site traffic.
  • Another day you will be working with our legal team to review current partner contracts to inform our compliance and risk management strategy.
  • And most other days you will be updating existing site content for accuracy and defining new processes to proactively mitigate compliance risks.
  • At your fingertips are dedicated personal finance writers creating and updating content, a tech team ready to help you create efficiencies to make compliance updates a well-oiled machine, a legal team to inform best practices, and more.
  • As we continue to scale up and move into new verticals, we will also be looking to you to help us gain efficiencies for compliance while maintaining accuracy.
  • Our goal for this role is for you to grow and eventually lead our compliance program. While no career path is guaranteed, we want you to know there is upside potential. Are you up to the task?

What do you need to apply?

  • 3+ years of experience in compliance and/or risk management, including to assist on the day-to-day implementation of a compliance program, and even to define compliance processes and to train stakeholders on best practices.
  • Hyper-organization, detail-orientation, and highly responsive to the rapidly evolving needs of compliance.
  • A self-starter who learns quickly and is willing and eager to adapt as the business does.
  • Relentless pursuit of self-improvement.

It’s even better if you have…

  • Have direct experience in compliance and risk management within the personal finance affiliate space. It’s not a requirement but it does give you a leg up.
  • Possess experience with third-party tools to automate compliance.
  • Have worked with third-party digital publishing tools, such as site scrapers (we’re super users of Screaming Frog), Google Analytics, Tableau, and publishing CMS’s such as WordPress and Wagtail.
  • Can demonstrate experience with any of the following: Content and technical SEO best practices, personal finance knowledge, paid media, content syndication, or editing.
  • Are familiar with affiliate marketing strategies, including to collaborate with affiliate advertising partners and working with affiliate networks.

Our targeted cash compensation for this role is between $70,000 and $95,000, which does not include any potential equity offerings. Below you’ll see a few of our perks, but check out this site for the complete list:
