Job Purpose:

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Digital Content Strategist to write, produce and elevate their web and digital content. The position requires strong web writing and information architecture skills. The successful candidate will have a background that includes writing for digital sources and a demonstrated ability to create effective content. Additionally, the candidate should have a solid understanding of UI/UX, SEO and information architecture best practices.

The position works closely with the University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) team of writers, designers, web developers and other marketing professionals to create content and campaigns that highlight and amplify UT Austin’s mission and key messages. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and manage their projects with minimum oversight.

General Notes:

Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy: Distill large ideas and campus initiatives into digital content that engages UT Austin’s student, faculty, staff and donor audiences. Act as the digital content expert both within the department and across campus to help elevate content university-wide.
  • Writing: Write, edit, produce and post content for utexas.edu, microsites and other digital efforts. Work with stakeholders with varying writing abilities to create and edit content.
  • Project Management: Manage and lead content projects from inception to delivery and help set stakeholder roles, responsibilities and expectations. Works closely with assigned project manager.
  • Collaboration: Participate in the production of other media types, including audio, video, and infographics. Manage the curation and delivery of content assets such as images and graphics.
  • Web: Perform content audits on existing projects to improve navigation, taxonomy, and information architecture. Apply digital best practices, accessibility elements and search optimization to all content and efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a communications area, related field, or relevant industry experience.
  • At least three years of professional experience writing/creating web content and/or other digital content, such as email campaigns, newsletters or social media content.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience using a content management system, such as WordPress or Drupal.
  • Understanding of content strategy, information architecture, user experience and user interface design.
  • Familiarity with best practices in SEO.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and Google Analytics.
  • Strong attention to detail/accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • More than three years of professional writing/web content creation experience.
  • Experience working in higher education or other complex nonprofit entities.
  • Experience working within a creative, marketing and/or communications team or agency.
  • Experience in a digital marketing environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for occasional remote work, but Austin-area base is required.

May work around standard office conditions if on campus.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

May require occasional extended work hours or on-call obligation during peak periods.

Salary

$80,000 + negotiable depending upon experience

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
