The University of Colorado (CU Boulder) Office of Financial Aid is part of the Enrollment Management unit where we support campus recruitment and student success efforts through the administration of financial aid and scholarship programs. The Communications Coordinator role is a full-time professional exempt position that reports to the Assistant Director of Communications. This position works closely with the Assistant Director in the creation and implementation of communication campaigns as part of an overall communication strategy for the Office of Financial Aid (OFA), including Scholarships and Student Employment and has an important role in ensuring prospective and continuing students have access to clear and concise financial aid and scholarship information to help them make informed decisions. This position is primarily responsible for managing websites, creating and maintaining accessible and user-friendly online forms, creation of instructional videos, creating and assessing social media content, as well as managing the internal OFA newsletter. This position participates in a communications workgroup to ensure that communication plans are carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with federal regulations. This position will develop and maintain a thorough and current working knowledge of all federal Title IV, State of Colorado, and institutional rules, regulations, and procedures to ensure the accurate release of information and program compliance.

Who We Are

The CU Boulder Office of Financial Aid is committed to helping students pay for college by creating innovative programs to support access and graduation, empowering students to make healthy financial decisions, investing in the development of our staff, and engaging lawmakers and partners to improve aid policy. We administer over $360M in grants, scholarships, work-study and loans for over 20,000 students each year. Our staff consists of 38 full-time professional employees and 50-60 student employees.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Creating, Maintaining, and Managing Content:

  • Manages content for the Office of Financial Aid’s websites, with a focus on meeting the needs of visitors, while balancing timeliness and accuracy.
  • Writes, edits, publishes, and maintains content for forms, social media, and video, in addition to the websites. 
  • Collaborates with OFA content experts to provide a consistent experience between customer service interactions and communications. 
  • Plans, coordinates, and proofreads content for internal newsletter and assist in updating internal website. 
  • Leads the production, implementation, and assessment of video tutorials. 

Communications Strategy & Implementation:

  • Aids the Assistant Director of Communications in the development and implementation of the communications strategy for the Office of Financial Aid. 
  • Responsible for a variety of annual communication campaigns supporting prospective and current students.
  • Aligns with university branding standards.
  • Responsible for learning and implementing new and more efficient ways of using communication applications.

Accessibility and Usability of Content:

  • Ensures accessibility compliance of all published content and understand how to accommodate all users and devices.
  • Work to improve usability of all digital content with a focus on user needs and student experience.
  • Support OFA staff by reviewing their materials for accessibility and offer trainings and guidance as needed.

Data Analysis and Content Evaluation:

  • Generates regular website analytic reports and highlights key insights and trends for use in improving web content.
  • Uses content design and user research methods when redesigning webpages to better align with user needs.
  • Provides video analytics reports and tracks video performance over time.
  • Evaluates performance of forms by working with OFA staff to identify difficulties and find ways to improve user accuracy through layout, design, content, technology etc.
  • Assists in the evaluation and effectiveness of communication campaigns.

Professional Development:

  • Participates in training seminars, conferences, committee meetings, etc. for professional development in financial aid and scholarship subject matter expertise, and communication trends and technologies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, retreats and other meetings as assigned.
  • Collaborate with your supervisor to determine areas for professional growth and identify and request appropriate training opportunities.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working on communications projects and/or marketing campaigns. 
  • Final candidate must successfully pass a background check and cannot be in default on a student loan either upon hire or while employed in this position.
