The purpose of this role is to help UCL fulfill its mission by improving user experience on UOnline and our family of University Connected Learning websites. This role will build new program pages, update current pages and conduct audits on information architecture, create a more uniform voice and structure for the content, and collaborate with UCL teams to assess future needs and design appropriate web solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs content and structural audits of UOnline/ UCL websites to ensure that content is current and easy for users to find and understand.
  • Work with clients to organize and develop content for their website, using UX/UI principles, as well as considering SEO impact.
  • In consultation with individual teams, writes content, and drafts revisions to content, layout, and navigation to ensure content clarity.
  • Revises current websites with edits and updates as needed, and requested.
  • Collaborates with teams to assess website needs and design new web pages.
  • Improve the consistency of our message across platforms.
  • Organize site content to fit within the existing design system and Omni Update framework.
  • Actively participate in quality assurance, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ensure content is style guide compliant.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisor and project team and must be able to work collaboratively or independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear detailed manner to impacted leadership and team members.

This employee works independently while performing their assigned tasks but generally works as part of the marketing team with input and guidance from the senior-level staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalency with 2-4 years of experience.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • Demonstrated proficiency in business writing and/or information architecture
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • At least 3 years of experience working in an office team environment, preferably in a relevant role
  • Experience with prototyping tools, especially Adobe XD
  • Experience with Adobe products, such as Photoshop (image editing)
  • Experience analyzing user data, heatmaps, etc.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability tests
  • Experience with CMS systems
  • Experience working with style guides
  • Knowledge of writing for SEO basics
  • Basic knowledge of HTML / CSS
  • Understanding of web-related accessibility issues
  • Experience working in higher education or other nonprofit entities
  • Ability to work within a complex organizational environment with multiple partners and stakeholders
  • Experience working within a creative, marketing and/or communications team using a variety of project management approaches
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and find ways to improve and optimize team processes
