Location

Beaverton, Oregon. This position will be remote during the pandemic and onsite at least 2–3 days per week when the office reopens.

You bring a strategic mindset to content creation across various channels. In addition to being an excellent writer, you know how to adapt copywriting to the audience and channel it is intended for. You promote and foster an environment where teamwork is a priority and peer learning is valued. You are collaborative within your team and across departments when making suggestions, making decisions, and receiving feedback. 

You have experience in AP and/or Chicago style copywriting, and adhering to the content style and brand guidelines. 

You are willing to jump in and assist when needed. You know how to have fun in the workplace while setting priorities and accomplishing your daily goals.

Must Haves

  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills
  • Experience in developing a content strategy to span across social media, blog, marketing materials, etc 
  • Understanding of persona and customer journey mapping and how both influence copywriting 
  • Understanding of Chicago Manual or Associated Press (AP) styles

 Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university, and 3-5 years of experience in a copywriting or content strategy role.
  • Prior experience working with science, education technology, or STEM educators is highly desired.

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing a holistic content marketing strategy and acting as lead copywriter for editorial content. This position supports the entire marketing department with copywriting services, aligning the customer journey and applicable personas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Content Strategy - Develop and execute against a content marketing strategy that converges the marketing objectives, personas, messaging framework and brand voice. 
  • Copywriter – Create high quality copy that reflects the tone and personality of the Vernier brand, effectively communicating to key personas at various stages of the buyer's journey. Copy creation includes, but is not limited to, advertising campaigns, email, website, articles, case studies, sales collateral, award submissions, ghost writing, etc.
  • Content Style Guide – Develop, use, and communicate the marketing content style guide which reflects content tone by channel and audience, including Chicago style and/or AP style rules (as applicable), exceptions, proper nouns, etc.
  • Key Messages – Work with product marketing manager to develop key messages that showcase the value proposition of the Vernier brand, products and services.
  • Content Editor – Edit all marketing materials for accurate presentation of our product and service information as well as for grammar, spelling, punctuation, adherence to style and voice guidelines, trademarking, legal and brand requirements, etc.
  • Social Media – Lead strategy for social media content and coordinate with agency to for the execution and measurement of social media effectiveness and engagement. Work with the marketing team to ensure key messages and priority campaigns are represented in the social media calendar.
  • Marketing Knowledge – Develop a deep understanding of our customer journey, brand positioning, and guidelines.
  • Provide stellar customer service by maintaining professional working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with scheduled work hours.
  • Work under limited supervision. A certain degree of independent judgement and creativity is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university; and 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries of complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
