Job description

Washington Business Dynamics (WBD) is seeking an experienced Scientific Technical Writer to support external clientele needs for National Institute of Health programs. This individual will support clientele with scientific workshops and other events to assist the Institute in conducting and implementing its biomedical programs. The position will be responsible for the Must be able to think analytically, articulate ideas clearly, and write and/or edit a wide array of copies. Skilled in writing reports, executive summaries, news stories, magazine-style, longer-form articles, and other communication materials with attention to facts, detail, and context. Ability to work under pressure, be constructively proactive, successfully manage multiple projects and meet multiple tight deadlines; simultaneously negotiate new and ongoing priorities while working in a dynamic, complex environment with a high level of communication, transparency, and diplomacy. Experience with health and science research, NIH or Aligned health/science federal agency experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation, management, and execution of assignments that synthesize and communicate complex scientific concepts for multiple audiences.
  • Must be able to think analytically, articulate ideas clearly, and write and/or edit a wide array of copies.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be constructively proactive, successfully manage multiple projects and meet multiple tight deadlines
  • Skilled in writing reports, executive summaries, news stories, magazine-style, longer-form articles, and other communication materials with attention to facts, detail, and context.
  • Simultaneously negotiate new and ongoing priorities while working in a dynamic, complex environment with a high level of communication, transparency, and diplomacy
  • Attend and support Pre-Event meetings with the team.
  • Develop promotional materials for scientific workshops and events. This may include materials for social media, regular media outlets, email, and event internet page development.
  • Attend scientific meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Write, edit, and review content that includes reports, executive summary reports, and other publications.
  • Interact professionally with biomedical clinicians, researchers, and policymakers with an intermediate level of scientific fluency.
  • Reviewing and amending work in response to leadership feedback.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Science or related field and five years of experience in communications, journalism, or agency work or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • 6 or more years of professional experience
  • Experience with health and science research, NIH or Aligned health/science federal agency experience is preferred.
  • Ability to support multiple projects from concept to completion, work independently, and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • · Masters Degree or PhD in a health sciences-related discipline.
  • · Certification in Technical Writing
