Rachel has spent the past few years talking about trauma-informed content design. But in 2024, a personal experience showed her what it’s like to deal with trauma and information at the same time. Dealing with information overload, overwhelming emotions, and navigating content with a mobile phone at a hospital bedside, she thought about what users need in the moment of crisis, and how that changes over time.
In this talk, Rachel will explore the trauma-informed principles you can use to make sure your content helps, not harms. She’ll also look at how that might be different for someone who is:
- in the midst of trauma
- in the aftermath of a traumatic event
- experiencing re-traumatisation
