Role Description: We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our team on a contract basis. This remote-friendly role is based in New York, United States, and is ideal for a writer with experience transforming complex technical concepts into user-friendly documentation and engaging content. You will work closely with developers, designers, and project managers to create documentation, user manuals, product descriptions, and technical guides that support product usability and stakeholder communication.
Responsibilities:
- Create, edit, and manage user manuals, API documentation, technical guides, and help content
- Translate complex product information into clear and concise language
- Work with engineering, design, and product teams to gather information and validate accuracy
- Ensure documentation meets quality standards, brand tone, and accessibility guidelines
- Maintain consistency in style, terminology, and format across all documents
- Update and manage content based on version control and product releases
- Conduct peer reviews and provide feedback on technical writing processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in technical writing or documentation development
- Proficiency in writing tools (e.g., Markdown, Confluence, Git, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word)
- Strong analytical, research, and communication skills
- Familiarity with software development cycles, UI/UX principles, and versioning tools
- Experience working with remote teams and managing multiple deadlines
- Understanding of accessibility standards and best practices in digital documentation
Compensation: This is a paid contract position. Compensation ranges from $40 – $55 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
