A Day in the Life

As a Senior Technical Writer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the clarity, accuracy, and accessibility of technical documentation that supports our innovative medical technologies and the people who use them. Your work will directly support healthcare professionals, internal teams, and ultimately, the patients we serve.

In this role, you will collaborate cross-functionally to develop high-quality, user-focused documentation. You'll be responsible for transforming complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly materials that meet both regulatory and customer expectations. You will also serve as a leader and mentor by providing guidance on best practices regarding effective technical communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, develop, plan, write, and edit operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedures for print, multimedia, web-based publications, user interfaces, and embedded user assistance.
  • Translate highly technical material into accessible formats for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct interviews and collaborate with engineers, developers, product managers, and end users to gather information and verify accuracy.
  • Research and document engineering processes, product specifications, and development protocols.
  • Recommend and implement documentation formats that are responsive to evolving technical requirements and diverse user needs.
  • Ensure all content meets established quality, usability, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain version control and document management through established tools and platforms.
  • Continuously improve documentation processes by integrating user feedback, new tools, and best practices.

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience OR Advanced Degree and 2 years of relevant experience

Nice to Have: Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in authoring tools (such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, XML/DITA, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with sharp attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to adapt content to a global audience to support translation and localization efforts.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness with leading and mentoring others regarding best practices in the field of technical communication.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across functional teams and with subject matter experts.
  • Experience in medical devices, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with regulatory documentation standards (e.g., FDA, ISO).
  • Knowledge of UX writing or creating embedded help systems.
  • Experience with content management systems and version control tools.
  • Visual communication or graphic design experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $83,200.00 - $124,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
