About the role

The role is a Content Designer within the NHS.UK content team. The team is responsible for the creation and maintenance of content on the NHS website (www.nhs.uk). The postholder will work collaboratively with other content designers in the team and, when required, with other multi-disciplinary team members (including design, development and user research) as well as liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

As a Content Designer you will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with content designers and other team members to create and maintain content that meets user needs and is compliant with NHS.UK standards. 
  • Producing copy and content assets that are accurate, timely, high-quality (based on insight and outputs of user testing, relevant to the audience, easily understood, optimised for search engines) and to style.
  • Monitoring the performance of content, using analytics platforms and metric dashboards, and identifying ways to improve content. 
  • Managing content daily using a CMS (Wagtail).
  • Potentially line management and mentoring responsibilities for Associate Content Designers in the team.

About you

  • An expert grasp of the principles of writing for different digital channels, platforms and a wide range of users.
  • Experience of user-centred design for digital products and services – including different approaches to content and how best to use them. 
  • Experience working in an Agile environment. The role requires that the content designer attends stand-ups, planning meetings and retros. 
  • A good understanding of different content formats (for example, multimedia and images) and how these can dovetail with written content to provide a seamless user experience.
  • Educated to master’s level or equivalent professional experience / qualification.

Please note the salary for this role is comprised of a base salary of £45,753 plus London weighting allowance which is 20% of the salary subject to a minimum payment of £4,473 and a maximum payment of £6,890.
