Job description
The Technical Writer develops, edits, and publishes technical documentation in print and digital formats, including hardcopy, PDF, multimedia, and web-based content. This role partners closely with engineering and technical teams to attend meetings, proactively gather source information, and translate complex concepts into clear, accurate instructions. A key focus is creating, verifying, editing, and converting field service procedures from various inputs. The Technical Writer also compiles operations and maintenance manuals (hardware and software), drawings, and supporting technical documents into a complete Customer Document Set that ships with each system. In addition, the writer consolidates information from multiple sources to produce and publish Technical, Field, and Safety Bulletins.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute publication schedules to meet deadlines, including drafting, coordinating reviews, incorporating feedback, obtaining final approvals, and publishing. Many deliverables require gathering and reconciling input from multiple groups, departments, or business units.
- Write, edit, and publish System Technical Manuals.
- Manage multiple documentation projects of varying scope and duration; consistently meet competing deadlines.
- Write, convert, edit, and publish Field Service Procedures.
- Verify the technical accuracy, usability, and safety content of Field Service Procedures.
- Compile and assemble the Customer Document Set for shipment with each system.
- Create and publish Technical, Field, and Safety Bulletins.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A technical background in automotive, mechanical, semiconductor, or other complex equipment environments is required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.
- Proficient in creating and editing Book Files in Adobe FrameMaker 10 or later.
- Proven ability to proactively gather, clarify, and validate technical information from subject matter experts.
- Ability to organize and present information in the most effective medium for the audience (e.g., manuals, online help, and multimedia content).
- Portfolio demonstrating technical writing capability across multiple deliverable types (e.g., technical manuals, service bulletins, and procedures).
- Software proficiency with, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; and familiarity with photo editing.
- Experience with 3D modeling is a plus.
- Prior experience with SolidWorks is a plus.
