Are you passionate about shaping ideas, addressing structural challenges in writing, and crafting engaging content? Do you have a strong enthusiasm for copyediting, style guides, and maintaining quality control? Would you like to work with leaders in software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence on projects for the Department of Defense, government agencies, and private industry? We're looking for a Senior Technical Writer and Content Strategist to join our Technical Communications team at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI).

In this role, you will be responsible for editing technical reports, writing and editing content for the SEI website, and creating and editing presentations. You'll collaborate with SEI researchers, engineers, and subject-matter experts to ensure the professional communication of their work's innovations and impact.

What you'll do

  • Edit formal technical reports, tailoring your work for each project's specific requirements.
  • Write and edit brief articles and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to capture information about their research and improve their content.
  • Suggest ways to present content in various formats and repurpose it for different media.
  • Work with other teams on publications, presentations, web content, and event materials.
  • Plan, manage, schedule, and track project tasks.

Who you are

  • At least five years of experience in technical writing and editing or a related discipline.
  • Excellent document planning, writing, editing, and copyediting skills.
  • Strong focus on quality and adherence to style guides.
  • Organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to interview subject-matter experts and develop technical materials.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and participate in team decision making.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support the SEI's mission.
  • Capability to pass background checks and obtain necessary security clearances.

  • Academic or technical research setting
  • Marketing writing for a technical or government audience
  • Project management and issue-tracking software
  • Website content-management systems
  • Accessibility or 508 compliance
  • LaTeX or other document-preparation systems
