Join Saab Australia as a Senior Technical Writer! We are looking for a motivated and skilled Technical Writer to join our high-performing team in delivering clear, accurate, and high-quality technical documentation that supports mission-critical defence systems.

Based in Mawson Lakes, SA and reporting to the Technical Publications Team Lead, you will develop a range of technical documentation (print and online) and support/mentor the Technical Writing team members.

In this pivotal role, you will Manage and support development of documentation in Framemaker and S1000D toolsets.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop operator, maintenance, and software user manuals with minimal supervision.
  • Lead documentation initiatives including peer reviews and quality assurance of technical publications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, and other stakeholders to gather source information and deliver customer-aligned content.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior writers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to tender submissions and estimate writing efforts as needed.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with defence standards and integrates seamlessly with ILS and LSA outputs.

About You

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Technical Writing role in defence, manufacturing, engineering, or technology sectors.
  • Experience with S1000D publication development.
  • Experience with developing and editing large and/or complex documents to an advanced level in Microsoft Word and/or Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Proficiency with PDF editing, graphics tools, and configuration management processes.
  • Experience methodologies for the development of documentation for hardware and software products.
  • Experience with implementing military documentation practices and standards.
  • Familiarity with web-based publishing and online help content creation.

  • Ability to adapt to new tasks, technologies, processes and procedures.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
